So let me get this straight. You ride a balloon up into the air... where a single accident auto-kills everyone on-board. And balloon fragility is notorious. No thanks.

Call me back when they invent safe balloon designs.

I actually have a friend of ours who had to go on disability and got majorly screwed up in a balloon crash years go.

They always looked fun but I'll pass.

She had to leave her job because she wasn't physically able to do it anymore after that one.

ive been up in one before, its really nice, however you really have to be ok with admitting to yourself that death is the likely outcome if something goes wrong

I'd wear a parachute but that's me. Actually I always kinda wanted to go up in a balloon but I'm terrified of heights.

I don't know why they don't put one on every rider.

I remember a horrifying video where the accident happened in Egypt on the ground and the balloon took off with everyone in it. One guy was able to jump out before it got too high (suffered injuries). His wife could not.

It has to be really hard to live with that.

well a cpl reasons,
1) space/weight
2) you often are not up high enough for a chute to actually work
3) chute does nothing when you hit power lines and set yourself on fire

Regarding point 3: A malfunction would often result in an uncontrolled increase in altitude (fire, loose fuel line). A parachute would be better than nothing.

agree, but if you are low enough to be hitting normal power line just jumping out could save you, it would hurt and you could die but a 30 foot fall is survivable.

I don't think a chute would do anything in most cases, you have to have some free fall to get the speed up before you can open it, you'd be likely to die a bit slower but not much more.

You have a better chance of tripping over your cat and hitting your head and dying from a brain hemorrhage.

I always thought it would be awesome to go in one of those. Though for piece of mind it would be nice to have a parachute on my back ready to go.
