A networking question

I have 3 computers hard wired and NOW running thru a Netgear hub to my Verizon DSL service.

When I configured the computers, I used the same computer name for all three computers.

Now that I am running them together thru the Netgear hub, two of them give me a "A duplicate name exists on the network" warning at bootup but the third one does NOT give this warning.

Is the fact that I am not getting the warning on the third computer due to it's position on the hub or is it due to the fact that it is the newest of the motherboards and on-board network cards ?

In any case, do I need to do anything to resolve this or is this really a non issue ?

I am pretty good at building computers but I know very little about networking !!!

P. S. - Operating system is WIN2000 PRO.

Thanks.

Please confirm, both of the others giving the warning or just 1, in any case, it is a simple proceedure to change the names thru the C/P system app and should be completed to resolve host name lookup!

I was getting the warning only on two of the computers and NOT on the third.

First computer is ASUS P4C800 Deluxe
Second computer is ASUS P4G8X Deluxe
Third computer is ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe - this is the newest motherboard of the three.

I had the first computer on initially and then boot the P4G8X which gave me the warning.
I then booted the P4C800-E which did NOT give me the warning.

I have now turned OFF the SHARING on C drive on all three systems and now I am no longer getting the warning. Do you think turning off the sharing on these drives gives me a complete resolution of this problem ?

Edit: Well that did not fix it, as soon as I rebooted the P4G8X again, it gave me the warning and the Sharing was again RE-enabled on the C drive.

Thanks.

Give them different names!

Right click My Computer, select Properties
Computer Name tab, and change those names. There's no reason you should have multiple computers sharing a name as it simply causes confusion. They can share the same workgroup, but names should be different.
