It's not often that reading something can move me to tears. This article did just that and I can't stop crying. Those people were true patriots and the best this country has to offer. Woe unto those that cross us. We will remember and we will make you pay.

That is a beautiful article. Very touching.

Those people were so brave. I don't know if I could be as brave in such a situation.

Shagger - I shattered your soapbox so now you can nver act higher than me and preach your evil religion to me again. Religion is the root of all evil.....money truly does buy happiness.

Zwingle - I am sorry if I gave the impression that I was better than you. I assure that I am not a better person than you, but the point I was trying to make is that we all have free will and that there is no way to understand God's plan for us. Being open to the plan, now that is the trick!

Zwingle's a bit of a closed minded bigot when it comes to religion. He fails to see any good in it. He can only see the bad and he assumes anyone who believes in it must be flawed and self righteous. Ah well, he almost makes up for it Hot Deals.

I don't know about the rest of this thread, but the article provided in the link was very inspiring - thank you for that. :)

Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
Seems we don't really have free will, if it'd God's will that's in control, as this line from the Lord's prayer clearly states

but deliver us from evil
Seems God was sleeping on the job - again.

Let's say God gave the terrorists a flat tire on the way to the airport. So they miss their flight. So Instead of taking the plane down in a field with 60 people dead, the terrorists take over a whole section of the terminal, with oh say 1,000 people in it and slaughter them all one by one.
Seeing how God knows everything, it'd be pretty stupid of him to allow that to happen then. Maybe have them get a flat tire along a cliffside and take care of them tat way. Plus, kill 1000 people one by one? I doubt that security or the police would be THAT slow to respond...

Rudee, well said there. Most of them probably had no idea that the terrorists were planning to smash the planes into buildings like that. It is unfortunate that they couldn't land the plane safely; I guess it went into a nosedive during the fight for the controls. Passenger planes that size don't survive nosedives; can't remember what happens to the wings; think they would shear off from trying to pull out of it.

Heck, some God-lovers/fearers don't miss any opportunuty - they stick it right in their signature. ;)

And technically, I don't hate that which I don't believe exists. ;)

I just frankly don't really get how anyone can believe it. But hey, if it works for you, fine. Just don't push it on us in publicly funded places - schools, courts, etc.

So, does anyone here think that this whole story is just a big coverup for what REALLY happened? All the conspiracy nuts are saying that an F16 shot down Flight 93, and that the all the cell phone calls and whatnot are just a more heroic-sounding smoke screen.

Not that I believe these wackos, but I'm curious if anyone else does...

I remember in my high school philosopy class, my teacher told us that he didn't believe in God, and proceeded to tell us all why he didn't. That didn't bother me any(even though I do believe), but then he asked how many peope in the class did believe and why.

I took that as my opportunity to say yes and explain my beliefs. I wasn't expecting the teacher to be miraculously swayed or anything, but I was rather shocked when he implied that I was foolish to believe in God. At that point, I lost my cool and replied:

"Okay, let's say there is a God and my beliefs are correct; if so, then when I die, I'll go to Heaven, and you'll go to Hell. If on the other hand, you're correct and there is no God, then when we die, that's it and there is nothing more. The way I see it, with each of us choosing to believe the way we do, then you have nothing to gain and I have nothing to lose."

The teacher wasn't happy with me, but he also didn't have any smart comments to make either. ;)

Not a very good teacher. That tired argument is one of the first things an atheist or agnostic hears. I find it hard to believe a teacher would have any trouble answering that at all.

And the reply is very simple: Out of literally hundreds of religions, and thousands of sects, you've placed all your money on one. The atheist/agnostic refuses the bet and remains neutral. Now, if you've picked the wrong religion and worshipped the wrong god, and the atheist logically reserved belief for lack of evidence, who's going to piss off this supposed god more?

At any rate, any god that is too stupid to realize that you're believing "just in case" (safety religion?) and not out of a true faith or conviction isn't much of a god, now is he?

Yours is a good arguement and a good reply. ;)

But I do believe strongly in my religion and have faith that my beliefs are valid. In the end, the values and beliefs that each of us hold are really all that we do have.

I am prepared to meet the one true God and I have no doubt whatsoever that my beliefs are "correct." :)

Thanks. It's just the logical response. :)

Hey, whatever floats your boat :)

I was just pointing out that your teacher was not too swift.
