The FreeWay service has been discontinued. The company won't say it's dead, but for all practical purposes, it's a shame that one of the best free services out there is gone.

I know a lot of people don't like this service because they make you wait a long time before getting approved, but for those of us who had signed up early with patience, it was one of the best deals ever.

I just don't like paying for long distance. *weep*

I was one of the charter members. It was a great service. I didn't use it at home but used it all the time when I was on the road, especially on lay-overs at airports.

I used a spam address to sign up and once in awhile I'd push the * key, rquesting more info to help boost their marketing efforts. Guess I should have pushed it more often.

With the cost of delivering LD sevice dropping all the time, I'm sure somebody will step in and fill the void.

I am one of the "honor" memeber to participate in their pre-release to the public service. I use it all the time while I am on the road, and I loved the service, fast, and the voice is clear. Where do you get the info on they are dead? They just told me they have some tech difficulties due to an update, everything will be back to normal soon.

This blows! I haven't used it for about a month but I have been using it in lieu of long distance service. The Internet is getting less and less useful as the days progress :disgust:

Sorry to hear that. Guess I have to check the F.....company site to find out their current staus.

No wonder I got a lot of busy signal lately. However, occassionally on and off I was able to make quick calls.

I think they are Great when they were usable on payphones! Save a lot $0.35 for me. Too bad, guss I should have press the * keys more often.

p.s. no offense, for those who don't know the freeway service, no need to put "me too" or "what is it" here. I am not familiar with a lot of stuffs and I don't waste the bandwidth to post to other threads with such message.

All the free ISPs are expected to be dead by June. The realization that you can't make money from banner ads because people tend to ignore them is what's causing the "great Internet crash of 2001".

I also was a Charter Member of Freeway, and wondered what was up the past few days, when I called to use it, the number was busy. Today, the dreaded email from them declaring it discontinued until further notice. Shame, I used it often and actually took emails and offers from some of their ads! I suppose if we all want a free ride on some of these companies, we should at least give them some of our business however we can. Without a revenue source (minus advertising), they can't possibly survive.

Freeway wasn't a free interent service, it was a free phone call service. You listened to ads for minutes. I used it all the time, especially when it was unlimited. Pretty upset that its gone, now when I need a free phone call and I dont have a calling card around, theres nothing to do.
