A mobo i want have RAID.What is this?

I wanna choose between 2 mobo.The asus KV8 and the Asus KV8-X.The KV8 is $15 more expensive because it have a RAID connector( 1 ultraDMA connector and 2 SATA)

I have 2 cd drives and 1 hard disk.All are plugged into my IDE connector atm.Will i be able to plug my Hard Disk into that RAID controller(ultra DMA) to benefit of the RAID option?(what thia RAID do anyway? what advantage i have using it? )

My hARD Disk is a 160 gig Maxtor 8MB cache 7200rpm

Not much advantage; unless you like reloading an OS and losing all your data due to a harddrive failure.
