a million people waiting in line...can someone please explain?

That picture doesn't show anywhere even close to one million people. There may be a lot more people out of the frame, but it would have to be a majority of the people.

Or, to put it another way, if the people were standing 10 people wide, and spaced in one foot intervals, 1 million people would form a line 100,000 feet long. 100,000 feet is nearly 19 miles long. There aren't 19 rows, what you can see of each row is far less than a mile, and the people aren't 10 wide.

Picture a stadium in the US with 100,000 people in it. I'm not sure there are even that many people visible in those pictures.
