Malibu was only a mild hybrid, so not really a fair comparison.

It is in the midsize sedan category so it most definitely is a fair comparison and the abysmal city fuel economy is one of the reasons why I never even bothered to look at the Malibu.

Toyonda make better than average cars.
Cars today from everybody are better than cars from 5 10 15 20 years ago

IMO its great the amount of choice and features available today in cars that cost the same if not lower 'inflation adjusted'

Every time I buy a new car I revel at the improvements over my last car

sooo wheres the OP lol?

so you love the brand name, but hate the cars...? time to move on to the next I suppose. Dont see a problem here at all.

Reliable: toyota
zoom zoom: Mazda
depreciates well: honda
tries to be everything but cant: nissan
survives for one car: subie and mitsu

I'd just be content with if they made exciting cars once again at low price points.

Toyota...No Corolla S anymore? Thanks for bringing the manual transmission back...but why only 130 horsepower in all flavors?

Honda...The Civic Si is way overpriced. You're in the territory of turbo-4 cyl competition with those price tags. Loyalists and those comfortable with the brand will still buy, and I guess they are banking on that, but I don't know anyone who in their mind, would buy a Civic Si when there's the Focus/Fiesta ST, Veloster, WRX (for only a little more), or just V6 variations of other cars entirely.

Today's cars are bigger, more HP and a lot more high tech. All other aspect are debatable.

And when I'm on my way home after a stressful day I don't want to hear:

- my door humm for the uninsulated thin steel skin resonating
- nor the entire plastic interior buzzing, snapping, crackling & popping
- nor my sunroof pop, side view mirrors whistle
- or earn a rug burn on my elbow from the cheap-@$$ canvas/nylon/polyester (aka PLASTIC) seat covers you're putting on my seats these days!!

Here's a suggestion: Trade in your old beater for a new ride?

Lovin my 9th gen Accord Sport 6mt coming from 1st gen Honda Fit

I think it's going to age very well.

Solution? Don't buy a new Toyota. Buy a used Lexus.

Or Acura, or Infiniti, or Benz...

If this list:
- my door humm for the uninsulated thin steel skin resonating
- nor the entire plastic interior buzzing, snapping, crackling & popping
- nor my sunroof pop, side view mirrors whistle
- or earn a rug burn on my elbow from the cheap-@$$ canvas/nylon/polyester (aka PLASTIC) seat covers you're putting on my seats these days!!

Is what's important to OP, then he should be looking at upmarket vehicles.
