I know that there are significant numbers of Conservatives who are disgusted by the way degenerate scum like Limbaugh and Colter have hijacked the movement. The degenerates are not interested in a better America. They are false prophets who are whoring for power and attention.

Kudos for attending, and I appreciate your idealism. I too would like to see a new republican party. But for the next decade (probably for the next 20 years) the Republican party will continue to be the party conservative reactionaries like Karl Rove and Rush Limbaugh, not the party of David Brooks.

Here in Greater Seattle metro there were numerous socially moderate republicans that attempted to push their agenda at the Republican caucuses but they were shut out and marginalized by local party leaders.

You need a strategy. What did Pat Robertson say...take over the party by getting elected to school boards and build your base, and take your party back the same way it was stolen in the first place.

Your criticisms of Limbaugh and Coulter are right, but not the laying of the blame only on them for 'hijacking the movement'.

They didn't use a gun - they are only the movement's leaders because the masses selected them over others to give the big ratings to.

Yes, it is something of a cycle - they get more prominence, letting them influence more people, giving them a bigger audience, letting them influence more people - but the blame finally largely rests on the people who are too lazy to get better informed and realize why they're so bad, andin part on the liberals for not doing more to try to reach these victims and inform them. Not that that's an easy thing, to reach the people who get little input but AM talk radio, who does not put on the liberals.

So this was not just 'Jindell gave a bad speech', it's 'the Republican Party gave a bad speech'.

It's funny, but just before reading your post, I was thinking to myself how I think I'm 'balanced, and a strong democrat', and those are not mutually exclusive.

It's the assumption that the sides are 'mirrors' of each other, equally wrong in different ways, that's a fallacy. That might might be true, or one party might be far better; the way to form the opinion isn't to assume, but to rationally look at them and reach an opinion based on the evidence, unafraid to say one party is far better if the evidence says so.

A long view of the conservative movement makes me shudder

It really is pretty remarkabel how bad their track record is for the last century, with the only really even superficially decent president being Eisenhower, and IMO, he doesn't hold up well when scrutizined - it's just a very tough image to crack with opinions firmly in place (though his final national speech is one of the few most notable in the nation's history.)
