Alright heres the story.

My company is split into two main divisions (operations and sales) and you are either one or the other. Well this guy is on the sales side of things and had a project he had been working on for eight months and finally gave up and asked someone on the operations side for help. That person gave it a shot for a few days gave up and then they asked me. I gave it two days of work and then put the project on the guys desk. He (extremely excited) rushes into my office and thanks me. The guys office is maybe 20 feet from mine. Well I was just heading over to the restroom and he asks me for my business card . I work with this guy and i see him every day. He has my email and my work number at his finger tips so why in the world would he want my business card?

Odd,

Can I have one?

I actually have given my business cards to fellow employees but only when they're from outside markets and if they ask.

Usually it's because they just want to have something to easily find my work cell and desk numbers.

Desk phone number, though I'm hoping you're being sarcastic.

He likes to compare business cards to his own, and daydreams of killing anyone who has anything better than his. You didn't watch American Psycho?

Wow, what do you do that someone worked 8 months, someone else worked a few days, and it only took you 2 days to complete a project?

I help over see all of the operations side of the business. This was a program they were trying to get to work in access but couldnt' get the formatting right. Even though I have only been working in access a year I learned quickly so it wasn't that much of an issue.

It's code for you're fired. Around where I work the code is "How are you doing?" It varies from place to place.

My guess is it's for a list of people who have bailed his ass out in the past, so he knows who to go to again in the future.

Lots of sales guys, especially older guys keep some sort of rolodex.

They meet tons of people and typically develop strategies to organize those people, their assets, and what they can 'use' them for. You'll be filed for 'Smart, fast, computer guy, who bailed my ass out'. It's a sales thing.
