Heads up peeps!

I don't have a problem with smoking bans. I smoke and hope to quit sometime this year, but I had to address "health issues".

Smoking and second smoking is bad, hmmmkay. An interesting note to city dwellers though. Warning: Do not jog/walk/exercise along busy roadways! People who do are at a greater risk of developing respritory problems. Also, do not spend too much time at indoor pools, did you know that Olympic and other amateur swimming/diving peeps have a much higher incedence of asthma than even the smoking population?

Many things will harm you, this hysteria with smoking/smokers is part fact, part smokescreen(no pun intended).

Aceman: hey, nice post. You successfully did not fall into the trap of trying to convince un-convinceable people like I did. Ah well, what fun is it if you can't fight once in a while. 🙂

Also, you're a fellow twin-citian! cool! Thought I was one of the only ones. 🙂 (live in new hope right now)

peace,

-Phil

Skoorb, I don't know if you read the whole thread before quoting me but there were comments about how smoking makes your lungs black, etc.

<< If I smoke a joint in my house that in no way affects your health whatsoever. And by the way you don't really think the average dope smoker (assuming they don't also smoke cigarettes) has more lung damage from weed than the average smoker do you? >>

No, I'm sure they have just as much lung damage not to mention LESS brain cells. And for you to say smoking a joint in your house doesn't affect my health, well according to some of the fanatics on here it sure does. The minute you open the door and that smoke goes outside you'ld be affecting my health with your illegal substance. At least what I smoke IS legal.

<< Once again, I drink liqour its my problem. You smoke its my problem. Get it? Some people should not drink; I personally have never gotten violent or driven in a car >>

. Once you drink it can potentially be my problem. Get It!

<< . Most smokers don't enjoy it and wish they could stop anyway, maybe this will be some added motivation. >>

<< That isn't why most people smoke, they smoke because they are addicted and wish they could not >>

You being a non-smoker can say how MOST smokers feel about it? I happen to enjoy smoking and could stop if I so desired. I stopped a few years back with no problem doing it and I chose to start again also.

wyvrn,

<< They don't admit to the damage that drinking an alcoholic beverage causes but they won't hesitate to try and point out what cigarettes can do to the body. And don't try to say that drinking doesn't effect another persons health unless you're willing to tell that to the families of all the people that have died do to drunk drivers. >>

<< I thought we already had laws for drunk driving. What is your point here? >>

My point is you people want to talk about how cigs damage a persons body but don't admit to the damage that alcohol can also do to your body. And yes, there are laws against drunk driving but there are no laws against smoking cigs. Only laws as to where you can smoke them.

This is just one of those subjects that people will NEVER agree on. What you do with your life is YOUR business and what I do is mine.

I think the whole argument of

<< Your rights end where mine begin. >>

is weak, just turn it around. What makes your rights more important or more valuable than mine?

Phil21:

It was a bad analogy. Peanut smell has not been shown to carry 1000 poisons, whereas cig smoke has. I may dislike the smell but could live with it, but I seriously don't like breathing in poisons. The analogy was not even a close comparison.

My point is you people want to talk about how cigs damage a persons body but don't admit to the damage that alcohol can also do to your body. And yes, there are laws against drunk driving but there are no laws against smoking cigs. Only laws as to where you can smoke them

Yes alchohol damages the body, but only of the person digesting it. If you drink 5 drinks sitting right next to me, you may smell, but I am not going to develop liver cancer. Contrast that to cigarette smoke, which has been associated with cancer and contains poisons to the body, AND affects people sitting around the smoker. That is why drinking laws revolve around activities done after drinking, as that is when other people are affected. Really I thought people were smart enough to figure this out.

By the way, I am not advocating laws against smoking in restaurants, I have already said I voice my dissatisfaction by boycotting restaurants that do not have adequate non-smoking sections. I do support anti-smoking laws in a situation where I cannot simply get up and leave, like in an airplane. Unless of course they start including parachutes on domestic flights 😉

Lastly:
You have NO god given RIGHT to be able to go into any resturant/place of business you chose and change the rules to your liking.

I thought our rights were given by the Constitution, Phil21. Christitanity is not the national religion, is it? 😛 🙂 😉

Personally, I can't stand the smell of the smoke. Besides that, I'm very allergic to it. I would like to see a public ban on smoking, but I doubt it will ever happen. Too many people out there are smokers and will raise a stink if any restrictions are imposed. (note: this is a generalisation (sp?), not an attack on any one person).

My grandmother-in-law smokes and doesn't care who it bothers. She refuses to put in any air filters, etc, and I'm flat out sick of it. The smell gets in my clothes, my hair, and I can't escape it. :|
