A look inside North Korea

It was a government guided tour. What do you expect to see? The massive human rights violations taking place in the ghettos all about North Korea?

Ever seen Frontline's undercover report? Not a nice place at all.

Do you know how China identifies the North Korean's that cross the border? It's because they're all very small and malnourished. They stick out like sore thumbs. They send them back.

like a potempkin village.
every journalist that goes in there is trailed by agents and limited in what they can say, look at, take pictures of etc. its a sham state that starves a million to death while keeping its statues shiny. the citizens have no idea whats going on in the outside world, its like 1984 made real.

North Korea - Children of the Secret State

not sure if its inthis documentary, but there are others showing street police directing traffic...that doesn't exist. those big buildings are empty.

this is what china protects and supports to keep as a political tool against the west.

North Korea needs to be invaded.

I wonder how many of you have actually visited and what you base your opinions on.

how can you judge another country and its culture just because of what some old fart on 60 minutes thinks.

because you can talk to people who've crossed the border and live in China

that was really intersting. communist propaganda everywhere, it's like china a few decades back. if it weren't for the korean characters it's difficult to tell the differences

that is so pathetic that I don't even know where to begin.

millions of North Koreans have died in the past few decades. Read what some international aid workers who went there say. This was a planned photo shoot you saw. He didn't go out and explore. Or wasn't allowed to.

North Korea is quite possibly among the worst places to live for the average person. It is a slave state if there ever was one.

yup, germany had plenty of big buildings too. nice way to distract while they fill their death camps and such. course nk is much poorer than germany which is guess is a good thing. gulags while not directly death camps have the same result. its sad seeing some documentarys where the reporter tries to ask a question the guide can't answer..because they both are being watched. they weakly smile at each other knowing they just can'tsay what they might want to. if the north kroean people knew the truth that state could not exist. the south seems to have some deluded hippies in control in regard to how they seem to be coddling and rewarding nk with factories and resources. keeping a horrible regiem in place. in those factories the south korean medical staff aren't even allowed contact with the nk workers😛 its all very segregated such is the fear.

What are your views on South Korea as opposed to North?

It is like comparing West Germany with East Germany, except that North Korea is much worse off than East Germany.

So I guess people visiting america get the chance to see all of the homeless ghettos there. All the gang-bangers, and illegal immigrants, all the poverty here.

Just because there might not be as many americans living in terrible conditions as north koreans doesn't mean it can be ignored. Is it that much different? Americans are just living under the assumption that they are free and democracy reigns supreme but that is not the case. You aren't FREE as FREE is defined, you must pay royalties (taxes), you do not OWN land (government seizures of land does happen in america), hell if you wanted to go out and live in the forest and grow your own food and make your own shelter you couldn't. Everything is just nicely disguised here.

Don't be so ignorant as to base opinions on what other people say. Go visit and then tell us what you think or just STFU.

So many people have opinions and have absoloutely no idea what is going on.

The more I look at this the weirder it is. There are no cars but some extravagent buildings and stadiums with no people in them. Then there are what looks like barns everywhere.

So you think it's peachy in NK? Is it all propoganda from us?

Check out these maps. It's really weird. See what you think.

You are carrying your BS from P&N to here now?

America does not have concentration camps yet. North Korea has had them for who knows how many years. That is a fact. There are actual eyewitnesses, both North Korean and foreign. There are documents. If you still don't believe that, then what killed the millions of North Koreans over these years? Mal-nutrition? But they have mal-nutrition in Africa, yet millions don't die there.

Those slaves working for the top ranking officials are doing so under brute force.

Many countries have people living in poverty. We are not discussing poverty. We are discussing state sponsored enslavement. The only person ignorant is you who is so short sighted to not see broadly. Your narrow thinking is limiting your viewpoint.

By the way, you don't have to visit a country to tell if its a tyranny or not. You didn't have to go to Russia in the 1940s to find out that it was run by a despotic regime. Going there helps, but most people don't really want to go to these places.

We don't go out in the forest to make food because we don't have to. It is a plus. Yes, people need to have more skills, but those skills are not required here since we are a generally open society in which people can pick and choose what they wish to do. Unlike North Korea.

Yes, people have opinions, but yours is the only one here currently that has no good foundation.

you are delusional. in america you can buy all sorts of books, movies, documentaries, look up studies and such on our poor and ghetto areas. you can explore those ghettos all you want. no ones stopping you, its trash in the light of day for all to see, its not hidden. the nature of repressive regiems like nk are quite different. if you try to get access to outside information or to spread the truth about the situation without official sanction you will be taken away by the secret police. kim jong il is a god there, speak against him and you will be taken away. don't even bother comparing the two as if they are in the slightest big similar. its sad you are so bent on sh*tting on america that you distort reality this far.

I am seeing broadly.. I am basing my opinions on what I know and not what I am told.

So I supposed Iran is just as bad too right, because Wolf Blitzer told you so?

I haven't been to North Korea and don't know anybody that has, but I do know someone who has been to Iran and from what he told me it was absoloutely NOTHING like it is portrayed on television or any "documents".

And isn't it a crime in London England to speak negatively about the queen?
