No mention of any PCs available in circa-1994 which often cost more than that Dell XPS, both adjusted for inflation and not.

Agreed. They just cherry-picked a few expensive examples for click-bait. No sense at all of the actual history and evolution.
First Floppy disk controller software I ever wrote was one of those beasts for three freaking credits of a post-graduate level assembly techniques class.![]()

I bought a Pentium 90 (flawed and was replaced later) with 16 megs of ram a 730 or so meg HD a SB16 sound card and a 2 meg video card... Oh and it did have a 4X Cdrom in a mid tower case with a 17" monitor the whole she-bang for $3200 back in 1994... Had got into a wreck and got some cash...:thumbsup:
