We lost the idea of an enemy attacking as a country, rather than a handful of people who are devoted to destroying the US.

I might believe that if we had so much as harsh words for the countries that raised and funded these men. Saudi Arabia comes to mind.

Aren't Saudi Arabia one of the friendlier countries in the arab world with the US?

Hey they don't have a democracy, let's overthrow their government like Bush Sr. did in Panama :)

You mean when he got rid of the dictator Noriega and allowed a democratic government take over?

I might add that 15 Panamanians did not fly planes into the World Trade Center.

only reason why arab countries are keeping afloat is their massive oil reserves

mmm hmm. They also need to sell it more than we need to buy it. Of course, if we took those oil fields and used the revenue to develop health care, education, and non-oil infrastructure in the Arab world instead of watching Saudi princelings use it to get gold-plated bidets and spread Wahabbism around the world, the Arabs would be a hell of a lot better off. They have proven themselves utterly incapable of self-government or economic development to an extent not seen anywhere else in the world.

Sure, the Saudi royal family is in friendly terms with the US but it's hold onto power is very weak and could be overthrown in an instant, the rest of the country doesn't seem to care too much about the corrupt infidel regimes of the western countries (nor the people for that matter).
Also, isn't Saudi Arabia one of the major contributors (at least monetarily) to terrorist organizations around the islamic world?

you're totally missing the point. you cant fight terrorists with nuclear subs, aircraft carrier formations and jet fighters. you have to find them when they're hiding, send a comando unit and kill them. that is much more difficult. my country has quite a lot of experience in these issues.

AND, with all due respect to the 300,000 American men and women who died during WWII, the USSR had more than 20 MILLION cassulties, NOT including civilian population. If Hitler would've taken the USSR and the US didnt' manage to build a nuke and had to land in Japan - the number of American casualties would have been astronomical. Remember that.

Theres a guy that comes to our office where I work. He is now retired, but worked here at one time. He was one of many in his generation that signed up to join the military on december 8, 1941. He didn't come home until the war was over. Thats just the way they did things back then.

People are more concerned with how things affect them personally nowadays. The WTC tragedy was horrific, but for many people it no longer affects their daily life so terrorists and the war against them become less important. May fine people joined our military in the weeks after September 11th, but how many people now just turning 18 are itching to join a war for freedom. A few maybe, but not the same attitude as gripped our nation in 1941.

December 8, 1941 - U.S. military had plenty of volunteers
September 12, 2001 - U.S. military probably had a decent surge after years of missing recruiting goals. But they still have to spend millions and millions on flashy advertising to attract people in the months since.

Nope. A big increase in inquiries. A very little increase in actual enlistments. Pathetic.
