im not an average user, im a gamer xD btw i cant use 4gb in windows xp, and i cant upgrade to vista bcuz my video card has problems suporting it but thanks for the offers.

i was thinking of getting an e8400 which is better? e8400 or q6600?

edit: i might get the quad, i do alot of stuff at once while im not playing with games, and the extra cores should help with that. and then when i switch to game mode it can still rip.

Dual versus quad depends on what you'll be using it for - for instance if you play SupCom then you'll want a quad.

As for E8200 versus E8400, get the E8400. Newegg has had it wavering between $189 to $199, so it's a much better value than the E8200 for overclocking (higher mult.).

Either go with the 3 GHz dualcore (E8400) or go quad. You seem, on the face of it, more like a high-speed dualcore user, but there are plenty of threads across this great Web of ours debating E8400 v Q6600. I'll leave the debates to them. Personally I went with the Wolfdale owing to the greater efficiency and the aesthetic appeal of the nice round number 3 (GHz).

Is that eVGA 9600 GT overclocked? In any case it seems far too costly. You can get an 8800 GT for less these days, and even the 8800 GTS is falling to about $200 after discounts, rebates, etc. The ASUS 8800 GTS is available for $205 after rebate on Newegg.

That Crucial Ballistix SKU has garnered plenty of negative feedback. It's $19 for a reason. Go with the G.Skill, and if you can afford it, buy 4 GB. I got 2 GB of Corsair, and I immediately regretted not getting 4 (have Windows Vista x64).

Just today I submitted an RMA request with Crucial because of these Ballistix with one stick DOA (sent in rebate, so can't return).

Ballistix memory is rocking, but make sure you get the kind with the ram on both sides of the PCB and the non glued on sinks. Those are CRAP and die after bout 2 months of use for some reason, two sets did that yet the older kind with the clip sink and ram chips on both sides of the pcb works flawlessly and no errors even after overclocking to 900mhz.

On what resolutions and what games? A quad core won't do you much good unless it's Supreme Commander (and Crysis?) probably. I doubt you'll notice a difference between an E7*** OCed vs an E8400 OCed. You're limiting factor as a gamer is the video card. I can almost guarantee you that a E7*** OC + 8800GTS will give better performance than the E8400 + 9600GT you picked out.

3.25GB > 2GB. I'd rather have 3.25GB and not use .75GB than not having an extra 1.25GB.

Definitely go for the 4GB even if XP won't use ~.75GB of it. The extra ram will make a difference.
