A little help with video card selection please.

I just built a machine for my tv and it needs a video card. I have been waiting for this whole X2000 thing to sort out but the X2900 doesn't seem like the way to go, yet. I have an x1900xt 512 in my current desktop and am thinking about putting it into my tv computer. What would be the better way to upgrade my desktop until the X2900's sort themselves out, an X1950 256 or 2 X1950 PRO's 256 in crossfire? I can have the crossfire setup for about $300 or the X1950xt for about $175.

Neither one of those would be a significant upgrade from a 1900XT...just save your money for now.

The 8800 GTS's are in the $300 range. I guess that's what I would spend for 2 1950 Pros for x-fire. Something to think about. I need a video card for my tv box since the onboard video doesn't have S-Video. So it's a sub $100 card for the tv computer, which makes me feel nauseous, upgrade my desktop and move my 1900xt down or wait. I hate waiting.

I am starting to think I would rather go for the 1950xt for less money and wait until 8800 cards or 2000 cards come down a little and then upgrade later.

Thanks.

You could sell the X1900XT, then combine that with the money you were going to spend to buy a new gaming card and a cheap card for your TV computer...the X1900XT would be complete overkill for a HTPC, since all you really need is the video output.

You mean I don't want to sit in front of my big screen and play Doom3 or Half Life 2?

Of course not! That would be ludicrous

Crossfire/SLi is never very good as far as bang/buck goes, though it's obviously better as far as raw performance. Look at the 640MB GTS, or if you want to wait, the 2900XT is on par/better than the GTS, but I don't know when you'll be able to get your hands on one, or what the price difference will be.

Sell the X1900XT and add that to what you were going to spend, and now get an 8800GTS. Preferably 640MB.
