right i have UT2004 and it had been playing just fine

a few weeks ago i re-installed the creative audigy drivers as the card was givin me a bt of jip, and also we got a new HP printer, and a Belkin 5 port USB2.0 PCi card

and since then UT2004 has been having stutters

its like this....there is a slight pause af bout .25 of a sec and it happens every 2 secs

this is my system

P4 2.4ghz
768RD RAM (i have turned off preload all player skins)
Radeon 9500pro

now im thinkin its either the AUDIO drivers, or the fact that HP very kindly added about 5 more tasks to run in the backgroun in taskmanager.

but could it be the USB 2 card ? its workin fine tho

Try disabling sound and see if that helps. You need to edit the UT2004.ini file. Check task manager to see what's running in the background. Do a start-run-msconfig and disable as much as you can from startup as well.

No problem. Disabling mouse smoothing and "improve mouse accuracy" gave my system a huge boost.

it does indeed apear to be the sound.........i had it disabled, and increase the cache thingy to 64mb, and it ran like butter.........put sound back on to see if it was the memory cache but nope, its stuttering again so i think it is the sound

it is a audigy (1) and i have enabled EAX too what do you suggest?

tone it down to just 3d audio or have another go with new driver instal?

this is gettin me pi**ed i want eax but it stutters

plays with normal 3d audio fine tho...what can it be thats causing the audigy card to slow down an stutter so much

i only have a 2.1 speaker set up.........i guess eax is really only worth it for 5.1?

You could bring up the task manager during the game. Alt + tab to windows desktop and press ctrl alt del to see if there are any other processes besides utk4 thats taking up cpu time.

You can also check web sites for all of your hardware (motherboard chipset AGP drivers, sound card, video, etc.) And just for laughs, remove your belkin USB card just to see if its stealing interupt time from the sound card.

Do you experience any distortion in the sound?
Disable firewall sometimes it causes problems in UT2004.

And just for laughs, remove your belkin USB card just to see if its stealing interupt time from the sound card.

It's not for laughs... Check it...
