A little confused.. DDR ECC Registered ram

My friends server is one of these: http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?inv...OHDD-R&cat=SVR

It came with 3x36gb SCSI and a 40gb hdd (it only runs 3 things, but critical things). Recently the IDE hard drive died so I replaced it with a 250gb WD.

We were trying to upgrade the memory. It currently has 2x512mb PC2100 ECC Registered ram. Its CAS 2.5 memory.

I found 2x1gb PC2100 ECC Registered ram on Amazon but its listed for Dell Only

This is the one I am referring:
http://www.amazon.com/Registered-Mem.../dp/B00494AMSI

or

http://www.amazon.com/PC2100-Registe...pd_sim_sbs_e_1

I thought all PC2100 ECC Registered memory is the same, this is the first time I am seeing specific for a particular brand / type of server.

3gb will take care of the issues we're having with that server. The server job is to extract data (OCR) off scanned files. It also controls a scanner or two.

I'm 99.9% certain that ram is not specifically for Dell branded computers.

Ads list a specific computer model like, "Dell PowerEdge 1750 2600 2650" because they hope someone who owns one of those Dells & needs a ram upgrade will search for those words rather than researching what specific type of ram they need in the Dell specs.
