A.I - what'd u think about it

Just rented it today

What a piece of absolute atheistic nonsense.

What a bunch of crap, it's like Spielberg had money to throw away and make this absolute piece of nonsense.

The movie doesent go anywhere, it has no point, other than Spielberg trying to explain his profound Atheism theories.

That kid had potential, Spielberg the nutcase destroyed whatever future he had going for him.

This is NOT what Kubrick wanted. Just rent Full Metal Jacket and compare it to this absolute nonsense. Oh well, Kubrick is dead, so he cant object.

Sigh, such utter nonsense. The movie actually had a lot of potential in the middle but then it went absolutely nowhere.

This movie could have been great but something was wrong and I can't quite put my finger on it. Maybe because the main character is a 'mech'. Pinocchio pinocchio pinocchio, arrghhhh!! Anyway the special effects and cinematography were fantastic. Haley is a great actor and this will most definitely not be the end of his career.

obviously u dont know much abt kubrick...all the pretentious BS in AI is because of stanley kubrick...speilberg wasnt influenced by kubrick for the filming of the movie....all the BS in the movie was a direct result of kubrick being the producer and the original concept owner.

good lord not again. first of all that IS what kubric wanted, he had the coda and everything, he chose spielberg to direct it because he thought his own style wouldn't work for it.

yes i liked it.

perhaps you thought the beings at the end were aliens too eh? grumble. take a look at the numerous previous threads.

and good lord? atheist theories? The man is a Fricken JEW!!. where the hell did you get that? there are references to the %#@ bible in that movie. get a grip man.

Holy sheit don't tell me those guys at the end were robots? Wow I didn't even think of that because they looked too much like aliens. If so, then that changes everything. I'll have to watch it again. That would explain why David is so important to them. 😕

edit>> no Nefro I'm not being sarcastic, I honestly didn't consider that possibility. Perhaps a reviewing of the last 20 minutes will reveal clues to that interpretation thru the dialogue. Kewl

right now i'm trying to figure out if your being sarcastic😛

but yes, they are advanced mecha. i went with 2 friends. both were convinced they were "aliens". it happens quite often with this movie apparently😛

btw i think one of those threads has a transcript of the dialog in key scenes🙂

and i guess i'll just steal from a thead to save time😛
Quoting Roger Ebert, A.I. stands for Artificial Intelligence, not Alien Intelligence.

There is nothing in the film that indicates that these beings were space aliens. Why would aliens come after humanity had been extinct?

There is also foreshadowing when Gigolo Joe says that "when the end comes, all that will be left is us (mecha)." The prologue of the film also indicates that mecha were vital to world economics because they didn't need any "food or materials other than the ones used iun their original building," hence we can assume that after a Freezing Era, robots are the only possible survivors on Earth.

As for the mecha themselves, their bodies showed tiny parts in their complexion that looked mechanical in nature. They could also communicate directly with other machines (when reading David's memories, this is machine-to-machine talk) and display images using their bodies (no biological entity could do this).

The mecha show a distinctive intereset in David and their ancestors. They want to know about their origin and "the meaning of life." This is a trait that science futirists and AI experts predict will be part of future AI agents, therefore further supporting that these being were highly evolved artificial beings and not aliens from outer space.

WTF are all the Atheism comments about? I didn't notice any strong support of Atheism in the movie.

I thought it was pretty good. It kind of went off on a couple tangents that were a little strange though.

Lover robots are going to be a huge business one day. The blue-haired chick was hot.

it was classic kubrick...but with spielberg's spin...im not a kubrick fan and i didnt like this movie...but i can understand how the movie can appeal to some people...

I think that the movie should have ended about 20 minutes sooner than it did. The scene when David was underwater looking at the Blue Fairy would have been a good spot to end, it would have left it open ended, and left people wondering. That last bit in the movie (with the more advanced mecha) seems to have been put in just to end the story. I think that it took away from the film.

The bear seemed to be more advanced than the full fledged mecha which doesn't make much sense. It was smarter, wiser, and *gasp* had common sense.

Well, it had been living with people for quite a long time...
