A guy I work with cleaned his monitor with windex...

The area he cleaned is bright and the area he didn't clean was dark, but the difference is so drastic that it can't possibly be dirt. I'm guessing it's the anti-glare coating which is the reason you're not supposed to clean monitors with windex? So my question is, what do I do about it? Try to get the rest of it off? As it is it's kind of difficult to use.

Windex is ammonia, water, and alcohol I think. Ammonia can mess up tinted windows and yes, anti-static coating. I think they substitute viniger in some instances, but for the most part any chemical cleaning agent could react.

Not sure on cleaning up the mistake, it's one of those cases of a little prevention equals tons of cure. There is no easy answer, but besides the anti-glare coating the glass itself should be tolerant.

yes, unfortunately you've rubbed off the anti-glare treatment of the glass.
Some of the employees at my work were using windex to wipe their 19" sony trinitrons,
and all of them now have permanent streak marks.

There's unfortunately nothing you can do to fix it now, and i recommend just rubbing the rest off just to even out the color. At worst case you've now lost the anti-glare treatment, but you can always pick up a anti-glare screen protector or just turn out the lights, lol.
