a guitar string

Hey.. My acoustic guitars string snapped and wanted to know how much it would cost me to get it replaced if i took it to a guitar shop ( including the labor charges) ?

thanks

Buy a pack of strings ~$10 and re-string it. It really isn't that hard.

edit - if you take your guitar with you to the shop, they will probably show you for free. Just go to a local shop, not some big chain.

I didn't know you played the violin. 🙂 How long you been playing?

$10? You can get electric strings for < $4. My acoustic strings are only $9.50 and they're some nice coated strings.

take the time and change the strings, clean the frets, oil the fretboard, and do any other maintenance.

Yeah, take it to a small local shop and they will teach you no problem. Its really easy to change strings and you should do it quite often. Your guitar will sound a lot brigther and it gets kinda gross if you really let it go.

go to google and look up how to change strings. However, if you bring it to a guitar shop, they will probably teach you how to do it right there and there will be no labor. If any shop does other wise, do not go there again.

I said ~$10....

$4??? Unless you buy in bulk, they are usually more than that at a local shop.

$4? Those must be the cheapest POS strings ever.

I have Elixer Polywebs on my Les Paul right now. I don't care for them. I do like the Nanowebs that I have on my acoustic, though. Much better feel.

No, I'd say it's about right. Some of the places I went would charge like 5-6 for one set, but give you 2 sets for 8-9. This was for Fender strings. I think last time I bought a set of Elixirs they were about $10-12. Wal-mart sells GHS Boomers for $3.84. Lots of people like those strings (not me).

I've got nanowebs on my Les Paul. I like them. I'm using 11s or 12s on it too 🙂

First off, those are fairly cheap strings. Second that's not a local shop that will show you how to put them on. I can't stand D'Addario's.

It's not rocket science. If a person with access to the internet can't figure out how to string a guitar, they don't deserve to play it.

And for the record, your dislike if D'Addario is personal. I've played them and they sound and play just fine.

Gibson Les Paul strings ... $6 for a single pack

DR strings, $6 single pack

BTW, these price can be had at Guitar Center ... which is a local B&M

i use blue steel on my fender strat, they feel fine. it all depends on what you feel is comfortable and how much you are willing to spend. restringing your guitar is rather easy if you have the necessary tools which they should sell at the counter.

I use Ernie Ball Super Slinky's...they're $6.95. Never seen a set under $4 before.

WTF you play violin? :Q
I will learn violin someday. It's one of the things I have to do before I die.

I'm a big fan of Elixir Polywebs. Definitely worth the extra money, they outlast the cheapos, and sound great. They cost $16 a pack at my local store.

It's easy to restring it yourself, just be careful with the coiled strings, particularly the low E. If it's wound around the peg in such a way that the weight of the tension rests on where the string enters the peg, it'll split the coil, and essentially ruin that string--I've done it waaay too many times. Just make sure the tension isn't resting on the sharp edge.
