1) Find a pair you like
2) Put them on
3) Check in mirror to see if they look good on you, if yes go to #4, if no repeat steps 1 - 3 till you can answer yes
4) Buy them

oh I guess you could get them adjusted to fit you but that'll depend what kind of frame it's made of and if they have the nose piece

You couldn't wear contacts before?

/wears contacts and sunglasses almost every day.

1. There are many. Shop around. Amazon sells sunglasses for example.
2. Just try on a whole bunch until you find a pair you like. Take someone you trust (and think has good taste) with you to help you out. Just like eyeglasses, good sunglasses should match your face and eyes. Also, make sure that the lenses have good optics and that you like the tint color.

Personally, optics is very important to me. I prefer glass non-polarized lenses, which is why I wear a pair of Ray-Ban Highstreets.
IMO, Oakleys are overpriced POS's with terrible optics (flame away).

Try not to spend more than $100. You should be able to an excellent pair for that price.

What is your budget?

If you don?t mind pink cat eyes shade with frillies then $0.99 at the dollar store will do.
But if you are gawdy & have cash it could then cost in the thousands.

The principle of having shade is to block out UV light & not to look cool...similar concept to clothing, car, and housing.

Are you more competent to test sunglass optics than an independant optical test lab?

Private Pilot magazine sunglass test, September 2003 Issue

Rating scores based on independent, accredited measurements as conducted by ICS Laboratories, Inc. Brunswick, OH 44212

Objective: Contract testing of refractive and prismatic properties of various sunglass models purchased at retail.

Procedure: A random sample of 65 pairs of sunglasses, all considered to be popular models were purchased on the open market. The samples were sent to ICS Laboratories, Inc. of Brunswick, Ohio. There, the samples were tested on the proper head form for the following ANSI Z87.1 tests: Prismatic Power, Refractive Power, Prismatic Imbalance. Astigmatism, and Definition. Upon completion of the testing at ICS Laboratories, the samples that passed the ANSI Z87.1 test were taken to Dr. Nelso Jun. O.D. for further definition testing.

Propaganda, perhaps -- or maybe they're just flaunting their scores.

I prefer non glass optics personally. I do a lot of sports and don't wear contacts as they are more pricey in the long run for me. I wear a few contacts for contact sports Rugby and some martial arts. I like the style and the tints of Oakleys and I am prepared to pay the prices I did pay. £115 for A-wires and then later £150 for the Oakley prescription sunglass lenses (I could have done without this but I need to wear glass's so prescription is the only way forme). I got my Why3's frame for £220 and then had prescription Oakley lenses as the difference was £25 between non Oakley and normal lenses for this frame. It costs a lot but they look sweet and I love them. I get comments about my glass's all the time.

Had to save up for them though :(

I figure I wear glass's I may as well get the best I can. I also have an other pair of Armani glass frames. They look nice

But dam I'd not spend this much if I didn't have to wear glass's! I would prefer not to but I have to :(

Aviators are good, and make you look cool. Only buy aviator sunglasses. These new wrap around sunglasses are bogus. The coolest movie stars like Tom Cruise and Sylvester Stallone wore Aviators.

Yeah but you can't get a custom fit. I get prescripted lenses so end up paying for frames in the shop that I get my tests done. I get custom fit also so it is nice.

Definitely not one size fits all. Some shapes are better suited for some faces. Just go to a store and try them on, and whatever you feel looks good, then buy it.

As I said, IMO.
And, IMO the only thing that matters when I am buying sunglasses for myself is my opinion ;)

I'm a huge fran of Smith glasses.

First, they fit/look great.
Second, they're polarized which makes a world of difference.
Third, they're glass lenses which take a HELL of a lot more abuse (cleaning with t-shirt, dropping, etc) than Oakley's lame-o pantywaist Uber-Noobtaniumite-XXXTREME-FocalMackDaddy-Lead-Glazed plastic lenses.
