I figure there are probably a lot of people on ATOT and elseware that spend a lot of time on the internet and don't get out much.

Going to a coffee shop with wifi, a library, or an internet cafe seems like the perfect solution. Then not only can you surf, but you might start talking to someone.

Any flaws to my idea? I couldnt think of any, other than that Starbucks requires a monthly fee to use their wifi, and you'd probably want to order something too, if you'll be there for a few hours using one of their tables, but whatever.

How about you do something other than with the computer? Your world doesn't have to revolve around computers you know...

yeah, thats a better idea, someplace free would be better. but the other day i was at Starbucks and it was packed with young beautiful women.
Sure there's a Dunn Bros near me that has free wifi, but its all older people who stop in there.

I try to do other stuff, but going on internet forums and facebook and online messaging is just too much fun. Plus online is a great way to meet people too. And at the coffee shop you can meet people both online and in person.

Gawd, just do something else. Internet forums are only fun if you're procrastinating on something that requires the use of a computer.

it started as a procrastination tool, but became much more. Maybe I just need to find something that I enjoy even more.

i dont think they do. i think you have to buy some plan with them for about $10 a month or something.

unlike a lot of people, I sort of feel guilty if I go on the forums while at work.

If you work in IT, there is never such a thing as downtime, there is always stuff to do. So really by surfing while at work, I'm preventing myself from doing something more productive.

nope. To get wifi, you need a 'hotspot' plan with t-mobile. I have one where its basically pay as you go but if you use it a lot, it becomes too expensive..

Panera is more of a restaurant.

does Panera allow u to sit there for hours at a time with just 1 cup of coffee?

Now that I put a 100gb hard drive on my laptop, I can install WoW on it, instead of running from an external, which means I can play WoW in a cafe or other public venue!

I had downtime for the first time ever today. I map oil & gas leases, so I always have something to do, but today my project manager was at ESRI's 2007 Petroleum User Group Conference and his boss had to go and find leases for me to map. Spent it neffing and browsing Craigslist, where I found the aforementioned 100gb hard drive for $65.
