I'm not saying I've tried every TV card. Only two.
First the Pinnacle PCTV rave. Gives WinME windows protection error whenever enabled, and no workaround. Their site is v. bad too, I don't hold out any hope whatsoever on their tech support.
Then the All In Wonder 128. Well, the TV works, when I disable my LAN, at least in ME, but the card has these unfortunate hangups with terrible sound...
This BS is quite frustrating and is hampering the PC's takeup I think. Too much hassle. Why so much bother with these things?
>sigh<

My ATi TV-Wonder (not All-in-Wonder, just the separate PCI tuner) works great in Win98SE. Never had a single problem with it, I use it to watch TV and I have my playstation hooked up to the RCA input. Never had any problems in Win98SE (I haven't tried win2k with the non-beta drives so I won't comment there.

The Hauppauge TV Tuner is great, just don't get the USB version, I've never been able to get it to look as good as the PCI version.

I have an AverMedia TV98 w/Remote and it works fine in Win98/ME. Downside is that Win2k drivers arent' released yet...

I have never had a problem with my TV card, sometimes the capture messes up, but watching is no problem.

i just picked up a Hauppauge WINTV model 404... it's a standard tuner w/ a remote..

i got it for $50 shipped after a little staples vs onvia PM and an extra staples coupon reach around:) just in case you were thinking about getting a TV card:)

i'd tell you more about it... but the first card that arrived was damaged.. a few lose parts(a resistor or something) broke off and were just flying around inside the static bag. it's no problem tho... staples is 2-day airing a replacement to me... all i have to do is wait for some paperwork and then drop the dead one off at a staples B&M:)

Like Noriaki, I have had experience with the ATI TV Wonder. Two of them. One is in an AOpen AX6BC mobo-based system with PIII 700, 192 MB Samsung CAS 2 RAM, ATI Rage Fury AGP, ActionTec PCI CW Modem, DMM Sonic Impact S90 soundcard, Promise Ultra 66 controller, Maxtor 27.3 GB 92732U8 ATA66-7200 RPM HD, Shuttle SDVD-101 DVD-ROM drive, S&F CD "racer" CDRW, etc... under Win98 Second Edition.

It runs almost flawlessly.

The other is in a new system I've just put together: Asus CUSL2, 256 MB Mushkin HP rev 1.5 RAM, PIII 800EB, Gigabyte GA-GF2560T AGP, Sigma Design's REALMagic Hollywood Plus DVD Decoder, Linksys lne 100tx NIC, Creative Labs SB Live! MP3+, Pioneer DVD-115 DVD-ROM, 2-Maxtor 10GB ATA66 7200 RPM hard drives, etc...

I havn't "fired up" the ATI TV wonder in this system yet, but I feel confident it will be just as much a GEM as it is in the other system mentioned.

Is their a reference brooktree tv card driver?

I have a old tv card from AIMS, but they went bye bye so no win2k tv for me.
How close are tv cards that use the Bt chip?
can I use drivers from some other brand?

I'm getting mine sometime next week. it's a Hauppauge Wintv-d. i hope it's good. my tv isn't with me right now. btw, anyone know if that has tv-output? and Rigoletto, it seems that the Hauppauge and Ati TV-Wonder are the best. I myself was looking at the ATI but the Hauppauge came up in an offer.
