A Good Star Trek nitpick

How is it that anyone can say something like "Janeway to Chakotay" which is only heard by Chakotay wherever he is. Well if you are watching from her end of things, he responds immediately and she talks back right away. Now if the comm system needs to determine by her "Janeway to Chakotay" who to route the comm message to, it has to wait till she's completed that sentence, then play it to him. So there should be a delay before he responds. But even when watching from her end, there never is any delay before someone responds after that initial contact request

In the original series, at least sometimes you saw them tuning the communicator to talk to different parties

This is easy to answer:

IT'S A GODDAM TV SHOW FOR CHRISSAKES!!!

They don't do it the "real" way because it'd make for boring tv.

That's a valid nitpick, but Trek is so full of bad science it's like focusing on a sparking eps conduit while the goofyion particle storm is turning you into a lizard-caveman hybrid living its life backwards.

No no no, it's chronotons that always cause problems.😉

So, they sent paris through space at infinite velocity. When he came back, he turned into a lizard. They turned him back into a person, and decided not to travel at infinite velocity anymore.

QUESTION: Why not send the whole ship home at infinite velocity, LET the whole crew turn into lizards, and then turn them all back into normal people again?

The doctor was there, he could do it.

Voyager was pretty lame...

Hahaha I agree with silverpig, some people getting waaayyy to techincal, lol. It's fiction, lol.

Notfred: I agree. What about the time Q showed up. Janeway could have just asked Q to send them back home, but she didn't cuz of some stupid sense of chilvary/honor. Hahahaha, she insteads wants to do everything on her own or something......uhh yeah. That makes perfect sense..........not.

ya gotta admit though, that the ship looked pretty sweet with that armor from the future in the series finale.. and 7 of 9 was always pleasing to the eyes.. 🙂

and as for on topic, my feeling was the computers were always just that fast. i'm sure the computer has a manifest of all crew members, so it only has to pick from that list.

maybe every crew member has a chip implanted in the brain.. so their thoughts can be easily read by the comp

one more thing: why is the comp voice always women?? LOL

Women have alot nicer voice than men do, that's why 😛

werd. and it gets us off imagining the hot cyber chick.

You do realize that your "hot cyber chick" is Majel Barett, who may have posessed some level of hotness back in 1967, but that was almost 40 years ago.

Yeah, but we don't SEE her, so we are free to imagine whatever we wish 😀!

I think a woman's voice is also a practical choice, human (don't know 'bout the others) ear hears the higher frequency better.
Still glad Barett doesn't do the voices any more... she just might not have it.

I've got another nitpick:

I watched the TNG episode last night where LeForge and Ro are phase shifted by the transporter and everyone thinks that they are dead. How come they are able to walk through walls, people, other objects, etc., but they don't fall through the floor? Answer that one for me.

Tachyons. In the floor. The Enterprise has tachyons built right into the floor. Just in case something like this ever happens.

It sounds funny but there is an actual scientific reason. I've worked on the F-16, F-22, and now the F-35 JSF fighter programs and the computer's voice is female. The pilots call the voice Bitchin' Betty. They've actually proved that the pilots respond better to a female voice over a male one. Don't ask me why, I don't know the exact reason, they just do.

why when there is something in the way like a nebula and it is wider than it is higher they always go left or right instead of goin over it or under it??
