Hey, Im going to get a 1+Ghz t-bird for my birthday, 10 days away(why are the 20's going by so fast?). Even though I'm not a fanatical overclocker, I do overclock a bit and want to have the option. I dont want any onboard sound or video, if its possible. The rig will be for Gaming and Graphic arts mostly. Anyhow, I also would like ddr ram and a 266 fsb. What are some suggestions? I tried looking around but I dunno any site that do reviews and noone posted similar topics that fit my criteria. Oh yes, is the 761 chipset good, what is the better chipset out there now?

Goodluck finding a good one/mobo without onboard sound. Dang why do these mobo manufacture integrate sound? At least make it a good sound card if yer gonna integrate.. grrrrrrr

my favorite board at the moment is the EPOX 8K7A with AMD-761-chipset (means AMD-northbridge and VIA-southbridge). i don't think there's a better chipset out now, though others will point out to the new SIS-chipset or the upcoming VIA KT266A. problem is, the manufacture-quality of the actual SIS-boards is highly questionable and the KT266A, which could be a real nice one, will not be available in time for your project.

well, you would have to deal with onboard sound, but it's easily disabled in BIOS and doesn't interfere with any other soundcard you might want to install.

futhermore the EPOX is highly "recommended" for it's OC-abilities and tweaking-options, while still running rocksolid. only thing to keep in mind, get a really good PSU.

I want to suggest that you buy a better 400W Antec power supply with that Epox Mobo because of the 5v rail problem that is if you are going to go with 8K7a which is a good motherboard...

DO not buy the 8K7a+. You pay more for the onboard raid but the onboard raid sucks...

I like to say that the KG7 has no integrated ANYTHING and it's fast as hell and ROCK SOLID! I've got the board running Windows 2000 Pro with the dreaded SB Live! and it runs flawlessly. And this is coming from a guy that ONLY used Intel systems in the past. The KG7 also has softmenuIII, because let's face it, dip switch overclocking just sucks ass. ;) I give my KG7, 5 out of 5 stars. I just can't find anything wrong with it. :)

J/K heh
Board was cheap and it wasn't suppose to be a overclocking mobo anyway heh... still rock solid stable at 1.45ghz haha heh 133->138mhz FSB. Dang now i have to figure out how to get it to 150mhz booting to windows. Then it would rock at 1.6ghz heh...
