We first need to install RFID on everyone, preferably on the hand or forehead to make reading the chips easier.

Then we just need to install RFID readers regularly along roads.

This system could be expanded to let people buy things using their chips.

I thought I read somewhere that some commission in CA is looking into the possibility of a mileage based tax system.

Sounds like a bad idea to me, it penalizes those who want to live in the burbs or those who have to commute a long way to work.

Meh. More like it subsidizes gas guzzlers.

California, like most everyplace else, pays for roads with gas taxes. As people switch to higher mileage vehicles, that tax base is eroded, so compensation is required. Both mileage based & registration fee based methods are contemplated as alternatives to raising gas taxes. Here in Colorado, registration fees were raised when more money was needed, which also subsidizes high mileage drivers.

It's something that cuts both ways, given that working class people usually drive older vehicles that get poorer mileage. OTOH, more affluent people often drive giant SUV's.

I have a better idea: start taxing churches. They advertise to attract customers (tithers), offer services and "product" to their customers (promises of salvation), and require money to remain in operation just like any other business.

considering consumer type autos barely wear the road at all, both SUV drivers and electric car drivers are really subsidizing the trucking industry (which does wear the road).

We are already taxed for the use of our roads....every time one buys fuel.

here in texas the taxes aren't high enough to cover the roads we have, let alone build new ones. people write into the paper every time a new toll road is proposed saying we're paying twice for it. no, we're paying enough in taxes to just build half of it, if even.

People who drive more miles are already paying more through gas taxes. Why should they now also have to pay more because of the mileage?

Just tax people based on frequency of phone usage. I could imagine that if you have a phone turned on the government could track you, whether you use it or not. I dont want to scare people too much. It is so easy now for the govt to spy on people.
