A good midrange AMD mobo...

Hello all...

It is bonus time at work and I am considering a AMD for the first time. I do not OC much, Raid is not critical, stability is most important. Having said all that, what is a good midrange AMD board that will allow for some future upgrades?

thanks

i would advice you to get an nforce 2 mobo
btw, if you want future upgrades, wait for athlon 64 to appear

If Nforce2 boards are a bit too rare or expensive for you, the next choice would be KT400 boards. These should "officially" support the new 333MHz FSB Athlons. Besides those two chipsets, nothing else "officially" supports the new higher FSB. The KT400 would probably be more "midrange" as you specified, since Nforce2 is more pricey.

Mobos based on the Nforce1 chipsets are very stable and cheaper than nforce2 boards. Check out Asus and MSI boards based on the 415 and 420 (for built-in video) chipsets.

I was looking at the nForce2 ASUS and Epox boards. I am leaning towards the Epox because of cost. Anyone have any experience with Epox or this board? also, what memory works best with these boards?

Thanks

I'm on my third epox mb, this one an older 8KHA+ but very impressed with each of them and seem to get good bios support.

Hard to call a good current or future board. Check out some mb comparison reviews etc maybe and try www.amdmb.com as they have forum specific mb info.

You'll hear lots of advice like mine from people with asus, msi etc.

Integrated boards like the nforce 1 haven't been popular but have a solid rep.

The Gigabyte GA-7VAXP mobo is a really good board based around the KT400 chipset and for the features it offers it has an excellent price, and should be a little future proof as it does support the 166 FSB.😀
