Hi, i was just wondering which 19" CRT monitor would display text sharp and clear. (Want it to accompany my Matrox G400 MAX :p )

I know the Sony brands are really good, but they don't seem to sell them near the area i live, so alternative brands and models would be appreciated, thanx.

Mitsubishi DiamondPro 930. I had a Sony PS before this and the mit beats it. Text is razor sharp, much more than the Sony.

lol ok.

btw, the IIYAMA VM Pro 454, has sharpness problems towards the centre of the screen? researched it and found several long forums on the sharpness problem, that kinda freaks me out...

If you like Sony Trinitron monitors, get a Mitsubishi Diamondtron monitor.

Most monitor companies make a monitor with it. Viewsonic, Samsung, and of course NEC-Mitsubishi all have good models. My friend has the Samsung 900NF and loves it.

I'm thinking of getting the 22" version of it next week (1200NF).

Not trying to threadjack, but can anyone recommend a 19" CRT under $350? I have a 17" Sony HMD-A240 right now, and wanted something to run dual monitors with until I get my second PC built, then I'll move the 19"er over to the new system.

ok, so it boils down to these monitors:

mitsubishi diamond pro 900u
" " plus 91
" " pro 930
liyama vision master pro 450 (maybe 454)
samsung syncmaster 900p
Phillips 109B
Viewsonic G90FB2

(Sony CPD-g420 , if i can find another one.. then i'll have 2 g420's hehe)

theres rather a lot to choose from..., still pretty confusing about what i'm supposed to choose...

i just bought a new 21" viewsonic and it looks nice in games
but if you want fast refresh rates over 1600x1200 it might not be for you
they also have a high performance 19" model for gaming and graphics which is supposed to have nice refresh rates, great dot pitch, flat screen, antiglare coating, etc
lotsa nice competition but just looks for the features you want in your price range

benq has the best price/performance ratio right now on lcd's and smaller crt's
but i would get something that is truely flat

also my 21" monitor weighs over 60lbs
haha

yea, viewsonic seems pretty sweet using the trinitron technology :) , i want to be able to do 1600x1200 @ the minimum of 85hz, i think all monitors can achieve that..

i use the mitsubishi 930SB and i recommend it.. it's lovely and it's $275 at newegg plus $37.00 shipping. Like the p95f+ from viewsonic the 930Sb is a professional monitor. I'm currently running @ 1280x1024 at 100Hz display is flawless. You will want to get a professional monitor because it allows you to have relatively high display settings at high frequencies. The 930Sb is my recommendation because the viewsonic p95f+ has slightly more blurry text at very high resolutions compared to the930SB IMO.

I have an Iiyama Vision Master Pro17, and just bought a Viewsonic P95f+ on the way home from work today (after quite a bit of research I had the choices narrowed down to the Viewsonic and the 930SB).

Unfortunately I was very disappointed with the clarity when I got home. The specific example I received was very clear in the middle of the screen, but it was much blurrier in the corners than the Iiyama.

I will return the monitor tomorrow, and see what my options are. I can get a full refund, but I'd really like a new monitor since I'd like to be @ 1600 x 1200 and my current monitor is a bit small at that res (although it can still handle 75Hz refresh).

Most of the reviews of the P95f+ say that it has very good clarity, so I'm not sure if I got a bad sample or what. Maybe the folks at the store can set up one of the other ones to see if it is any better. If it is no good either, I'll definitely be checking out that NEC/Mitsu 930SB.

NEC/MITSUBISHI DP930SB-BK anyone? or how about the FE991SB-BK both look very very nice. The 991SB can support even higher than rated resolutions. Text look very sharp at high res.

Last I saw, Fry's was selling the 930SB for $289 so it should come out cheaper.
