When I sell a vehicle, I make a point to tell them about anything I know is wrong with it. I price it accordingly. I can usually do better than I could trading it in, because I usually get more in cash and get a better deal on whatever I'm looking to buy. I do the homework and know what it's worth, within reason. I had one person come back 8 weeks later and bitch about the condition of the car, so now I include a paper saying the sale is final and the condition of the car is "As is". If they won't sign it, no sale.

This is so true. In 1998 I bought a '93 Miata for $8000 (my first of 3 Miatas). I put 50,000 miles on it and wanted trade it in on a brand new 2001 Miata. The dealer only offered $3k for it! I said, "Hogwash!"

I sold that puppy for $6,000 cash money baby!!

Sounds like you're a frequent browser but not a seller. At least some of that crap needs to be said or else you get crappy responses.

That's extremely unusual. My parents drove cars from 1986 and 1987 all the way up to 2005. Neither car has ever had a leaky radiator. That's like saying "oh it's just the transmission that melted, you know, the usual"

Those were just for example, but it isn't unusual. And it does not compare at all to transmission problems. When I replaced my radiator it was an easy do-it-yourself and cost $150.

Things like transmission issues or a blown head gasket or something major you should mention of course. But if you're buying a car from 1985 it isn't my job to tell you all the quirks of it, and in fact that turns a lot of buyers off because it makes it sound like you tinker with the car yourself too much.

My main point is just that it isn't dishonest/thievery/whatever to sell a car "as is" and refuse to diagnose all mechanical issues to potential buyers. It is smart and saves you a lot of hassle.
