*sigh* I think it's because of this girl he was obsessed about. Claimed he was in love with her after 3 weeks of seeing her. He was going crazy the other night about how she was putting some distance between him and her.

update: In order to not pull a syringer. Talked to him on the phone. Basically....he wasn't intending to suicide. He just wanted to grab my attention. He was with his gf and she screwed up. Told him to give her some room. He agreed. They might or might no longer be going out. I dunno. Up to them.
 
He's just whoring for attention. If he was serious about suicide, he'd have done it already.

Step 2: Go hang out with friend.
Step 3: Get him so drunk that he couldn't hang himself if you gave him a pre-tied hangmans noose.

but seriously, we're horrible people.
 
If he really wanted to do it, he'd have already unbuckled his sturdy leather belt and hung himself.
But he's not going to do it. He doesn't even wear a belt.

He just wants to get positive reactions from his friends to assure himself that he's a "good guy" and not a complete loser. Getting attention now is critical, he wants to feel thet some people care about him.
He either lacks self-confidence or suffers plain old-fashioned depression (or he's just in the middle of a mood-swing, in case he's susceptible to those). Drinking/crying/sleeping will eventually solve his problem.
