So if I understand this correctly, we shouldn't worry about our emissions because one of these LIP events could happen at any time and wipe us all out anyway?

Have you ever found it weird that you find yourself in a civilization that has about 7 billion people currently living but where only roughly 100 billion humans have ever lived?

XD

"Barack Obama was a founding member, chairman, and president of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, which was also funded by the Annenberg Foundation."

Guess who owns factcheck.org? You must love getting manhandled by me.

and you inject follicle-stimulating hormones into your ballsack, thinking it will make your 5'2" self somehow more manly.

WTF should anyone listen to your squeals emanating from way down there?

While it's good to correctly state the percentage of scientists who agree with something, science still isn't a popularity contest and thus the percentage agreeing with a particular proposition is relevant but barely. If 99.99999999999999999% of scientists agree with a theory for which there's little evidence but represents what's thought to currently be the best fit to explain the observations then that theory will be well-agreed with but not robust.

This is all a sideshow anyway, even if one stipulates to climate change that doesn't by itself oblige everyone to accept any and all proposals to mitigate it. Do you think the 3rd world will agree to remain non-industrialized in order to prevent releasing some more carbon into the air? Do you think people are going to agree to abandon their cars, or all go vegan, or even really agree to pay large scale carbon taxes or whatnot? People will agree with peripheral changes that don't really impact their lifestyles. When/if technology advances so that people actually see "climate change fighting" products as being better alternatives then they'll be adopted without government prompting. Currently there's some key technology pieces missing (like battery storage) or the products aren't fit for purpose for most users (e.g. range too short, etc) and thus you can scream "global warming" all day long until the cow farts turn us into Venus and nobody will change much if at all.

Man, I'm glad you're not a scientist.

For sake of argument I'll accept your chart values. All that means is that for decades the "climate change side" has been pushing for solutions which were hugely uneconomical and thus counterproductive to their own cause all the while knowing the technology wasn't yet ripe. Thus "doing nothing" until technology caught up was exactly the correct approach which is exactly contrary to what your side would have done. It also supports my point that adoption rates will follow once both the economic ROI and ability to fully to meet the business needs of the user were in place. Solar and wind power in the Al Gore "Inconvenient Truth" era met neither of those preconditions.

It's like production and incentives have never made costs for new technology go down.

You are literally saying: "Don't do the expensive thing and the expensive thing will eventually become cheap, magically, while literally no one is investing in developing it further."

That is exactly your argument. You aren't saying anything else. This is why no one takes you seriously.

So what part of your brain (you know, the parts that weren't automatically triggered as liberals have been physiologically proven to do) this did you disagree with? To reiterate:
"Barack Obama was a founding member, chairman, and president of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, which was also funded by the Annenberg Foundation."
Guess who owns factcheck.org?

So why are you guy still linking factcheck.org? smh

You seem to know a lot about this subject, so you know the grant was already committed BEFORE Obama decided to serve as the Chairman of the Board right?

BUMP for #2020.
Test: Our average global temperature will never return to the baseline from before 2016, let alone 1997.
Proof: UAH Satellite for Global Temperature.

Look at that. Data proving the theory, each and every day. Goodbye record high temperatures of the 2000s and early 2010s... we'll never see such "cool" highs, lows, or average temps again. We've gone up a third of a degree since the pause. Just saying...

I made ice in my freezer. Global Warming is fake.
I got some too, we should team up and split the Nobel Prize. :D
I know global warming is occurring just as much as the next sane person does but if you try to take away my steaks and burgers we are going to have a serious problem!
You have heard of vegeburgers, right? They are experimenting with something they created in petri dishes too. And there's tempeh from soy beans. OK, that ain't a burger, but Indonesians have been eating tempeh forever.

I need more evidence, IF you believe the body of evidence isn't faked, then yes it's possible. However, there have been too many allegations of data tampering by NOAA, especially during the last admin to conclusively say YES. I think in another 10 years we'll know for sure. However, there are far far far more pressing issues like the economy and illegal immigration than climate change. Is climate change going to put food on my table? Nope. Is climate change going to help people on opiods? Nope. Don't give a shit, and neither do Rust Belt Swing State voters who are more worried about money than a 1st world problem of whether the world heated up by 0.01% of a degree celsius. Ya dig?
What you're saying is those rust belt people are only thinking of their wallets, their back yard... that they are myopic. Fair enough. This I knew. But that doesn't mean the bogeyman isn't going to get them by and by. The signs are very ominous. Trump loves the uneducated. He does not understand the educated.

So for folks who don’t know or think they know but don’t know how our current change compares over human history XKCD has a wonderful graphic

Always a wonderful xkcd comic, anyone who looks at the last 1% of that chart and doesn't recognize a problem has some 'splaining to do.

anyone remember the link to the graphical explainer that, as you scrolled down, considered CO2 and all the other possible causes/factors in global warming, coming to the conclusion that, absent CO2 we'd be experiencing slighting cooling, and about the end showed a chart that looked about like this:

Hausfather-CB-2017.png

i think it was from this fall
