A forum solution for Windows NT platform?

Hey all. I have a new project and I'd appreciate any advice. I work for the law school, and we're trying to find a forum/bulletin board that will meet the following criteria:

The objective of the bulletin is for students to be able to discuss class-related information and also to have the professor moderate / discuss as well.

Students should only be able to view/post forums for the classes they are enrolled in

Each class will have it's own forum

Signing up a student for an account and forums needs to be an automated procedure, since 500 students have multiple classes each semester, and the amount of time required in manually setting up each account would be rediculous. However, we do have a database with all the student's information, and I don't mind writing a script or small program if necessary - I just need to know if and how this can be done.

The forum must be secure and compatible with the Windows NT platform.

My largest concern here is the automation of the creation of accounts and the selection of viewable forums. I'm willing to partially restructure our database and do some extensive coding as long as I know I will be able to meet my goals. And while I'd really prefer building on a free bulletin, a licensed bulletin is a consideration

Thanks in advance for any help
