Sorry, but Olive Garden was gross the time I went there (years ago). Being able to distinguish between good and bad cuisine does not equate to having a stick up one's ass, in my opinion anyway.

It's nice that they did that, but unfortunately, the food at Olive Garden blows chunks compared to a real Italian restaurant.

That's the thing though, there really is no alternative, well around here anyway. This is why I cook almost all of the Italian food I consume, I feel I can do it just as well, or better than somewhere like the OG.
Unless you are going to a good Italian restaurant (they can be cheap as well, but they are usually local, hole-in-the-wall joints), you are most likely better off cooking yourself.

OG ain't that bad around here, even if it is frozen food. At least 90% of restaurants use frozen food anyway so if someone complains because the food is frozen then... maybe you should just stay home.

what kind of gourmet meals do you usually have? Inedible is ridiculously stretching it.
Elmer's Glue = their Alfredo sauce? Wow, did some manager there spit in your eye and smack your kid? Outlandish exaggerations.
Do you actually like any chains or are you just one of those people?

Depends on where you live. Where I live there are a few really good restaurants with italian food on the menu that actually inhibits the some qualities of being italian, mainly, simple food with a focus on fresh in-season ingredients. If there's a mom and pops place where you live that makes their own pasta and sauces etc, makes their food from scratch, that's good enough. Dots and drops on a plate with fancy decor from a celebrity chef isn't necessarily the type of place I'm visualizing.
Some parts of this country just have chains on a strip and that's it. If that's where you live, I'm sorry. If not, look beyond the bright neon signs and try some of the smaller local places. Finding good restaurants can be hit or miss. Try a different place regularly and if it's good, go back. You should always have a shortlist of 5-10 places that you can count on for a good meal.
Going out to dinner is a hobby of mine, guess that makes me a chick. :Q
