A fishing question for the fisherman..

I don't fish but I was thinking of going out getting a blue fish or two. Anyway, the sinker goes on the bottom and the hook on top correct? How much distance is there supposed to be between the sinker and the hook. Thanks, Guys.

P.S. I used to fish with my uncle when I was a kid but he would set my hooks up.

No, hook on bottom and sinker on top. I dont' know about you, but that's how I salt water fish.

I've never fished for blue fish but I've always put the sinker about a foot or two above the hook. It really depends what you're fishing for. Not sure about blue fish.

Yea, but if the sinker is on top wouldn't the hook end up bieng on the floor not a few inches on top. Cause if its on the floor crabs would eat it not fish.

Ok, I see. Next time I will put the sinker first then the hook. Thanks.

Hook on bottom, sinker above it. The sinker stays on the bottom. Fishing line is buoyant, so the hook/bait will float up.
