A few Viper pics as promised

Holy cow. I bet you can't see shit out of that rear window.

Nice pics. But your video fails cos you didn't blip the throttle. 😛

That's a safety feature. You look anywhere but the road in front of you in a viper, and you'll crash and die 😛

awesome viper, viper!

Why was it in the shop for 3 weeks?

A long list of relatively minor issues/maintenance.

- Full inspection
- It had two broken plug wires, so new plugs/wires
- Whoever installed the cat-back exhaust never bothered to re-install the O2 sensors downstream of the cats. It threw a CEL before it made it to my Viper tech.
- New front brake pads
- Flush/fill transmission/differential/brakes/cooling
- Front fascia removed and re-mounted (apparently the fascia mounting spacers wear out with track use, it was drooping)
- Hood re-aligned with re-mounted fascia
- Installed relays + new head/fog lights

It was not a cheap trip, but it should be good for quite a few trouble free miles now.

satyajitmenon, the rear window isn't nearly as bad as it looks. It's a lot better without the temp tag, so I'll be glad when my plates arrive.

thepd7, I paid the seller $33K. After transporting it here, a new set of PS2's, the above listed trip to the shop, new fobs/keys (the Viper head keys are fragile), a battery tender, & other things that I consider to be part of the purchase (getting it to a known good baseline) I'm up to a little over $41,000.

Viper GTS

I just did a search for Vipers around here and found a number of them. It seems as though people don't know what these cars are worth though because prices are all over the place. There was one low mileage GTS for sale with a new engine and transmission with aftermarket tune for $39,000. Not sure why a low mileage Viper would need a new engine and transmission though...😕 Seems like a red flag to me.

Engines blow for unknown reasons all the time, all it means is that you have a car with an engine that runs like it just rolled out of the factory.

There's definitely a lot of variance. The nice thing about Vipers is there are so few of them around that when you start looking you pick up on the cars that have "stories." People talk on forums, and they remember cars that have spotty histories. I specifically passed on the story cars, this one was a two owner car - 9 years with the last owner.

My basic requirements were:

1) Not a garage queen, I don't want to feel guilty about daily driving it
2) Low miles
3) No stories

I'm definitely into GTS territory with everything I've done, but I'd have done most of it to a different car anyway. I'm OK with it, & plan to drive the shit out of it.

No they don't.

And this car could have spent most of its life as a track toy or a test bed for some company to modify the hell out of stock Vipers, meaning it has been beat to hell and back. No way would I jump to the conclusion that you just did.

1999 Dodge Viper GTS, 43k miles, black with silver stripes, $47,995
2004 Dodge Viper SRT10 Convertible, 41.6k miles, black, $42,995
1996 Dodge Viper GTS, 28k miles, blue with white stripe, $42,500
1997 Dodge Viper GTS, 10k miles, red, $39,000
2002 Dodge Viper GTS, 45k miles, red, $33,000 (this is the one with new engine and new transmission)
1997 Dodge Viper GTS, 9k miles, red, $39,900
2000 Dodge Viper SRT10 Roadster, 11.7k miles, black $38,000

The list goes on and on. There are 19 of these for sale within 75 miles of my home. Some private party and others are dealers. Seems like a performance bargain but I would think you'd have to do your homework before buying a car like this.

Nice ride man, I love it when people buy cars like this and actually drive them. I'm thinking about getting a Vette in the spring and using it as my daily driver for 6-7 months out of the year.
