Nothing against the people of France, but.....
Yes, I recieved this as a form letter....but who cares??

JFK'S Secretary of State, Dean Rusk, was in France in the early 60's when
DeGaule decided to pull out of NATO.
DeGaule said he wanted all US military out of France as soon as possible.

Rusk responded,
"Does that include those who are buried here?"

DeGaule did not respond.

You
could have heard a pin drop.

When in England ,
at a fairly large conference, Colin Powell was asked by the Archbishop of Canterbury if our plans for Iraq were just an example of 'empire building' by George Bush.
He answered by saying,
"Over the years, the United States has sent many of
its fine young men and women into great peril to fight for freedom
beyond our borders. The only amount of land we have ever asked for
in return is enough to bury those that did not return."

You
could have heard a pin drop.

There was a conference in France where a number of international engineers
were taking part, including French and American.
During a break,
one of the French engineers came back into the room saying, "Have you
heard the latest dumb stunt Bush has done? He has sent an aircraft
carrier to Indonesia to help the tsunami victims. What does he
intend to do, bomb them?"
A Boeing engineer stood up and replied quietly: "Our carriers have three
hospitals on board that can treat several hundred people; they are
nuclear powered and can supply emergency electrical power to
shore facilities; they have three cafeterias with the capacity to
feed 3,000 people three meals a day, they can produce several thousand
gallons of fresh water from sea water each day, and they carry half a
dozen helicopters for use in transporting victims and injured to and
from their flight deck. We have eleven such ships;
how many does France have?"

You
could have heard a pin drop.

A U.S. Navy Admiral was attending a naval conference that included
Admirals from the U.S., English, Canadian, Australian and French
Navies At a cocktail reception, he found himself standing with a large
group of officers that included personnel from most of those countries.
Everyone was chatting away in English as they sipped their drinks but a
French admiral suddenly complained that, whereas Europeans learn many
languages, Americans learn only English. He then asked, "Why is it that
we always have to speak English in these conferences rather than
speaking French?"
Without hesitating, the American Admiral replied, "Maybe it's because the
Brit's, Canadians, Aussie's and Americans arranged it so you wouldn't
have to speak German."

You
could have heard a pin drop.

Robert Whiting,
an elderly gentleman of 83, arrived in Paris by plane.
At French Customs, he took a few minutes to locate his passport
in his carry on.
"You have been to France before, monsieur?" the customs officer asked
sarcastically.
Mr. Whiting admitted that he had been to France
previously.
"Then you should know enough to have your passport ready."
The American said,
"The last time I was here, I didn't have to show it."
"Impossible. Americans always have to show their passports on arrival in France !"
The American senior gave the Frenchman a long hard look. Then he
quietly explained, ''Well, when I came ashore at Omaha Beach on D-Day in
1944 to help liberate this country, I couldn't find a single Frenchmen
to show a passport to."

You
could have heard a pin drop.

As far as my research goes I could not find anything to discredit any of the above stories. In fact Snopes.com says the first is absolutely true....

I would say of course share it....if you can prove the allegations are true...
What I posted are all true accounts...

You can`t say that about what you want to post....
Because we all know he has a valid birth certificate!!

It`s real sad that you actually think Obama does not have a valid US birth certificate!

Prove any of what i posted as being incorrect...please....

That`s the best you can do??

This attitude of "everyone owes us everything until the end of time" is why so many people hate the US.

Since general Powell is not a retard, I'm guessing he never actually said this. He knows damn well that the US has a long history of fucking with other countries and assassinating democratically elected leaders. Iran 1953 anyone? The US also overthrew numerous elected governments in Latin America. Taking out a democratically elected government and replacing it with your favorite dictator is not a "fight for freedom."

I'm guessing this never actually happened. Engineers know what ships do. Also, France has 1 such ship.

So basically the American made a complete fool of himself by not having a clue who really won World War 2? Hint: a huge majority of it was Russia. USA, Canada, Britain, etc didn't even reach the mainland until June 1944. Russians were fighting the germans nonstop since 1941.

Keep guessing...because I can find no proof that he did not say it!!
In fact knowing quite a bit more than you do about how the good general cared about our troops I would say it is very true and had been said by more than one person...think about it....how can it not be true??? You are probably the one who can`t see the wisdom in his response...

I'm guessing this never actually happened. Engineers know what ships do. Also, France has 1 such ship.

1 such ship commissioned in 2001....and quite possibly not even close to being as advanced as an American Aircraft carrier. Plus it has been riddled with technical problems ever since it set sail...so you are wrong and mis-informed again!!
care for more ass kickin??

Nobody asked you to be a douche nozzle.....you are very ill informed and have not diproved anything I posted!! In fact you have just showed that you really need to stay in school and really learn your english comprehension and some more history......

Again your showing that your level of comprehemnsion sucks ass!!
Where do you get this crap about russia and WW2?? We are talking about the country of France abd WW2?
The russinas had nothing to do with the liberation of France!

You sure the Russians had a direct part on liberating France?
here are some statistics--
According to the American Battle Monuments Commission
There are 26,255 Yankee dead from World War I buried in 4 cemeteries in France.
There are 30,426 American dead from World War II buried in 6 cemeteries in France.
These 56,681 brave American heroes died in their youth to liberate the country of France!!
May the people of the United States of America never forget their sacrifice.

shalom!!

It's good to recognize the good anyone does - your country and others - and bad to let mythology take over.

The first story was an entertaining 'gotcha' story for the arrogant DeGaulle (credit for the remark is attributed to LBJ, not Rusk who protested but delivered it at his order.

I guess some on the right who pass the story along (not saying Jedi) don't like to give LBJ any credit.)

Some of the other stories cross the line on both honesty and chest beating.

The Chinese casualties in the war - not mentioned once - dwarf the allies we think if (ten times higher than the US, UK or France). The USSR's dwarf those.

The comment about the general leaving the USSR out was right;the crack was about defeating Germany, and the USSR paid a far higher price to do that than the US.

Not mentioned either is how the US stayed neutral while France fell and the UK was fighting the war for years. Even then, the US didn't play above board, claiming neutrality but helping the US with materials. The US did a lot to help stop the Nazis and that was a good thing, but it's often exaggerated compared to others.

Be happy with the US for good things like its championing against tyranny - despite the times it's empowered tyranny. For its universal free education, free speech, safety net, labor culture, generosity, the times it has shown restraint when it didn't have to, its progress on human rights, etc. When you travel the world, you not only better appreciate the good about other countries, you see where they fall short that the US has done well and appreciate it all the more.

Did you honestly just say that destroying Germany would not help end a German occupation of France? Really? Ok so like if the US was suddenly attacked by China right now, you're saying that the US would keep all of its military in Iraq and not pull any troops back to defend? REALLY???

You could have just checked wikipedia to see how many people died trying to destroy Germany.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_War_II_casualties
Soviet Union - 8,800,000 to 10,700,000 soldiers and as many as 24 million people total.

Germany was getting butt raped long before the D-Day landings. They lost the battle of Stalingrad in February 1943, they lost the battle of Kursk in August 1943, and the were losing ground every day after that. Germany was already losing the war, so all D-Day did was speed things up. It ultimately did not change the outcome of the war against Germany.

Without US intervention, people in France would most likely be under Russian control since areas captured by the Russians went that way. Example: East Germany was controlled by Russians while West Germany was controlled by Americans.

And then the Frenchmen said to the American, "Remember how we funded and trained your continental army, sent soldiers to fight in north America, sent our fleet to clear the way for French soldiers to cut off Cornwallis, the same French soldiers who outnumbered Americans four to one and only to whom the British would surrender, allowing your war for independence to end favorably for you?"

You could have heard a pin drop.

you make it sound like the first interaction between America and Germany in WWII was in 1944 on DDay. Pretty sure if it was Germany and Italy vs. Russia with no American involvement, the Russians would NOT have taken over France after defeating Germany because they wouldn't have defeated Germany in the first place.
America beat them in Africa and Italy while the Russians were trying to defend their home turf, then LATER we invaded Normandy, then moved into Germany opposite the Russians.

Actually what you heard was the man saying to himself...hmmm

Actually I read nothing in Wiki -pedia or any history books of the French ever training the Contenential army!!

I did read of foreigners from other countries training....but no french soldiers!

What I do know is that washington`s troops were trained by Friedrich Wilhelm von Steuben. German-born American Revolutionary officer. He joined the Prussian army at 16 and was a captain in the Seven Years' War. After the war he retired from the army and became court chamberlain for the prince of Hohenzollern-Hechingen; at some unknown date he apparently was created a baron. Recommended to George Washington, he arrived in America in 1777. Appointed to train the Continental forces at Valley Forge, Pa., he produced a disciplined fighting force that became the model for the entire Continental Army. He was appointed inspector general of the army and was promoted to major general (1778), and he helped command the Siege of Yorktown.

You are greatly exagerating the role Francxe played in our revolutionary war!!
troops -- 4-1...nah maybe 2 to 1...or at times when amassed 3-1 for certain battles!!

For some reason the Russians were greedy little buggers. But they were by no means even remotely thinbking at all about liberating France!!

Your not telling anybody anything they did not already know....
My question is simple - Why do you hate America so much?

Regardless of the facts quite a few Americans lost their lives in WW2, regardless of other nations losses....

Why do you hate America so much?

Lots of jackasses in here.

FYI, France has a single air craft carrier, the Charles de Gaulle. It displaces 38,000 tons and is 262 meters long. The USS Gerald R Ford super carrier displaces 100,000 tons and is 334 meters long. The de Gaulle isn't even in the same league.

Even the 50 year old USS Enterprise super carrier dwarves the de Gaulle and exceeds her capabilities.

WHO cares if its old???
is that all you have to say???
Just padding your post count huh??
No thats not all I had to say, I said something else as well. But given you are the type of reactionary who immediately harasses someone with misdirected anger the second he sees something he doesnt like. Are things going OK for you at home? Its particularly bad your comment was not at all appropriate for this type of thread.
Plus, I actually said something relating to the thread, you did not.
You have all sorts of fail going on right now, dont you?

Back on topic, it actually seems in recent years the French havent been quite as quick to run their mouths about shit, but they still do it on occasion.
