is the only difference the dual dvi???

and will this cooler fit on an x800xl?:

or will this cool better:

THANKS!

The difference between those two VGAs are the companies who make them and the heatsinks. Support will also differ. Also, both those HS' will work with an x800. Though I would take the AS. 😀

gahhh

before you buy ANYTHING how often do you plan to keep it before upgrading? why do i ask?

6800gt- has shader model 3.0...pretty much a must for good performance on 2006 games (unreal 3 engine for one)...good performer overall...can be changed to a 6800 ultra (i think...maybe not)

x800xl- has shader model 2.0...plays current games better sometimes, but when it comes to future games, the 6800 will pull ahead by quite a bit

so it's all a matter of how often you upgrade, if you only wanna play current games, or if you have a strict budget

i vote 6800gt

depends, i will probably upgrade once a year once i get this system set up...i play mostly cs and natural selection so i dont need super high end, but i do play world of warcraft, doom3 occasionally...

any ideas for the coolers?

I say leave the coolers alone. Too expensive for what you get. Who cares if the temps are down 5-10C, as long as it is within spec, no damage is done, and its running fine. I don't see why you should fork over $40 on a cooler. Whatever extra overclock you can get (whoopity do, 5 mhz?) is not worth the extra cost.

What is the price for the 6800GTs? If the 6800GTs are only a little bit more (less than $30-$40 more), I might go with that instead. But at 300~, the X800XL is a great deal.
