1) Noticeable difference between X1900 XT and XTX?
2) Worth it to go crossfire?

I plan to game at 1680x1050, and would like decent fps with max detail + FSAA + etc

Pentium D 945 OC'd to 4ghz or so
2 gigs of ram

My friend owns a X1900XT using the 1680 x 1050 resolution and has no problems gaming. He is satisfied and can crank up the details. I use a X1800XT 512 and can happily game @ 1600 x 1200.

I dont think the extra clock speeds on the XTX are worth the extra £50 for so, not when you can clock the XT to the same speed with little or no impact using tray tools.
I would only bother with crossfire if i had to drive 1900 x 1200 resolution the 24" LCDs use.

The difference between the xt and xtx is real small just 25mhz difference on the core and 100mhz on the mem. Everything else is the same between them. When they first came out the price difference was too much on them that most people went with the xt. If you are going to go x fire then I would just go with an xt(You will need a crossfire edition card plus the xt or xtx) I have heard different things on how crossfire works. Wether it runs at the slowest cards clocks or if they work independent of each othes clocks. I will let another person help you on the crossfire set up if you are aimed in that direction. Personally I don't like Dual GPU's no matter if they are SLI or Xfire as there are more issues than with single cards, but the performance is good so it is really a personal choice. As for wether I would pick an xt or xtx? the price is about $50 off now and I believe that to be a price worth paying for an xtx. Hope this helps.

I agree on the Crossfire thing it really helps with 1900x1200 rsolutions. It is true that the xt's can overclock pretty easily to xtx speeds, but then you are "Only" at xtx speeds. The xtx can overclock too and then you are sitting real pretty. That's just me though. At $50 extra I can defianantly see why someone would pick the xt. It's just a decision on the value of $50. Not a bad decision in the slightest at 1680x1050 though. How much are you wanting to spend ATI has a pretty nice card coming out mid sep. for about $400. It maybe something to look at even if you aren't in the market for that high a price the xt and xtx should drop a little more when it comes out. Though at $300 the xt is looking mighty fine right now.

1) No. You have a solid chance of getting easily overclockable XTX BJ11 memory on your XT card, and you're looking at 4% core clock gain. Plus, the low end is usually more OCable than the high end.

2) IMO, no, unless you are rich, and if you are, get a 7950x2.

I have crossfire but i don't think its worth unless you play all the latest game at the high res :)

But yeah its gives you an awesome pefromance increase to hand the higher res than 1080p/1600x1200 ++
