I have 2 questions, totally unrelated.

1. My car(2000 Neon) has an 83 amp alternator. Would this be a problem when powering a 300 watt inverter connected to a 180 watt PSU? Should i bulk up my battery?

2. 12 bit color versus 16 bit color, how do they compare? I am looking at an LCD screen that is 12 bit color, and the guy says that it is not great with DVDs. 12 bit is 4096 color, versus 65,000 in 16 bit. Can someone give me examples of each?

your alternator is fine its 60A that arent strong enough. its your battery that you should be worried about if its kinda old you should be ready for a slow start in not too long. as long as your car is on when running the psu. the worst it will do is make your battery die slightly faster.

i used to have a 1000 watt amp with a 2 guage wire in my 1998 honda civic. it lasted pretty long. i had to charge it once before school tho ...no biggy

well, i plan on unplugging the inverter when not in use. Very rarely will i be using it without the car being on.

your alternator wont even feel it..dont worry about it.. as for dvds on 12bit, it wont be too great, but watchable

12 bit colour gives 4 bits for red, green and blue meaning that each of the rgb values can go from 0-16

To give you an idea of the transitions, get a paint package and draw a block of rgb (0,0,0) then one of (15,15,15) next to it and so on up in intervals of 16.
You will notice a big difference between the colours, a 12 bit screen isn't going to do smooth colour transitions very well.
