a few questions on the law...

1: Is it legal to be intoxicated in public? (alcohol)
2: Is it legal to be underage and intoxicated in public? (both of the aforementioned are without having any alcohol on them)
3: Is it legal to swear in public?
4: Is it legal to be underage and smoke in public?

Note: public meaning anywhere; not necessarily an area populated with people.
If any of them AREN'T legal, please mention (if you know) the penalty
Thank you, I am having a minor dispute with my friends over this
This is in Ontario Canada, btw

If you do not have alcohol on you, then most likely you can't be arrested. If you DO, then you will be arrested in most areas. Swearing, you can, but it isn't nice. There aren't laws YET that prohibit a minor from posessing cigarettes...just from buying them.

1. in some cases like if your causing trouble i think they can get you for it
2. no but a cop can't really do anythign except call your parents
3. yes
4. in my area its a 100 dollar fine but cops don't care...i smoked in front of a cop after i got in an accident im 16 and he didn't say anything.

It all depends on what state you live in.
1. A lot of states have public intoxication laws.
2. See above
3. Again, depends on the state. I know in Michigan it is illegal to swear in public if minors are present.
4. Got me there.

I assumed jobberd was asking how the law is written, not how it's usually enforced. In general, the cops aren't going to bust you for being intoxicated in a public place unless you're really causing trouble and leave them no other choice.

<< I assumed jobberd was asking how the law is written, not how it's usually enforced. >>

Actually I was looking for both, I should've specified 😱 Thanks to everyone that responded, I appreciate it

<< Damn. In Canada I don't think you guys can even keep a handgun for personal protection in your own homes, can you?
>>

Nope, I don't think we can. It's very very limited here. And you know what, I wouldn't have it any other way. I'm very happy that there are no handguns allowed in homes. I think that is one of the best things this country has going for it - that and public healthcare. I don't see any point in getting into a debate of "protecting your family" versus all the problems associated with home guns. No point. One thing, a good baseball bat will work in most situations, if one should ever occur (and it doesn't). Just my $.02 .... if you wish to flame me, go right ahead.
