A few questions before I reformat and reinstall.

I figured it was time to get rid of all those old files and reinstall Windows, maybe make a few new partitions, but before I go I have a few simple questions.

How should I set up my partitions? I'm going to move all my MP3s and Documents to my secondary 4 GB HD and then format the big 20 GB. I was then thinking of dividing it up between OS (about a gig, maybe two), Office programs (3 or 4 GB), Games (8 to 10 GB), and all other crud (Rest of drive).

Should I leave a part of my drive for Windows 2000? Does it recognize FAT 32 partitions? And how much should I reserve for it?

Anything other than email, documents, and internet files I should backup?

No offense, but 20GB isn't really considered "big" anymore

Unless you have a compelling reason for partitioning, I would simply format it as a single partition and use folders to organize your data.

Sounds like a good plan to me. 2gig's for the OS and you should be fine. Backup your email, documents, and internet files on your second hard drive.

I have 40 GB, and 2 partitions.
-5 for windows, etc.
-35 for misc.

I don't see a need for partitions anymore, that's what folders are for.

Partitions can come in handy when you want to do a reformat and didn't / forgotten to back up your personal data. Just keep your data on a seperate partition.

What the heck. Reformat doesn't delete all the partition on the drive. Trust me on this one. I've done so many OS swapping it's not even funny.

If you are plan to reformat your hdd a couples of time per year then go a head and partition your drive into multi partitions.

C: - 4gigs for OS
D: - 15gigs for everything eles.

It is best to make an image of your C: drive after the clean install if you have an extra drive, because it will safe time on the next install.
