I'm trying to consolidate the phone/tv/internet services at my house now that I've moved back and my father asked for help. He was thinking about canceling long distance on our house line completely as we can simply use our cell phones for the long distance calling that we do. He had a few questions that I simply don't know the answer to, and I plan on calling MCI later on today but I was curious to see if anyone here would know off the top of his head.
1) Can you still technically dial out LD and be charged a larger (than if you had a LD plan) fee? Or can you simply not dial LD?
2) If you don't have long distance service, can you still receive incoming LD calls, or are you paying the static monthly fee for the ability to receive calls as well?
2a) If you can still technically receive LD calls without a LD service, is it just some absurdly expensive rate?
3) What about 800 numbers, can you dial 'em without LD? Toll-free?
