A few questions about "going drinking" in a group

I agree with that, but I really don't want to spend more than ~$20 regardless. It should be a group entirely composed of grad students living on stipends, so I'm hoping they have the same idea. If not, the event simply goes beyond my means and that will be that.
 
This can't possibly be real. It has to be someone's psychology experiment to gauge reactions from an internet forum.

A business man from New York decided to quit his job and buy a 200 acre spread in Montana.

There won't be any appetizers involved, as this isn't exactly a restaurant. A taco is $2. 3 beers max for me (most likely just 2), ~$3 each. Easily enough for a 20% tip.

Unless the op is playing a long game of troll, I think it's real given his recent posts in the following L&R thread: http://forums.anandtech.com/showpost.php?p=35574881&postcount=16

I'm guessing he's trying to change that, so I would suggest people stop laughing and help him out.

Going out, especially for drinks, tends to be more expensive than the name implies. There will be appetizers at least, couple of drinks, and often a full mean if people are hungry. Get another twenty.

I'll work on the cash issue. The food is apparently quite cheap, so $15 for a small meal, a couple drinks, and tip will hopefully be more than enough.

Where are you going to eat? Around here, that would be $6/drink, lets say $12 for a meal (hella cheap at a restaurant), 13% tax plus 15% tip... If you had two drinks, you'd be over $30.

You're good. Your $20 will get you through the night..... As long as nobody's buying shots for everyone. If they start doing that, it'll be your turn soon.

But even if they do, and you don't find a way to let them know you can't afford it, your credit card will work too. Just don't be the last one there if you opened a tab (opening a tab means they hold onto the card and run it when you leave. Otherwise, they run each transaction as you order at the bar)
 
Just got back, wasn't the alcohol extravaganza some people were predicting. Had a $2.50 taco and a $3 beer, and the guy that invited me paid for the group (just three of us total) anyways. Good experience, we just talked about some random stuff from school to games to music and discovered one was a big Kate Bush fan which was cool. The single beer (plus a little of another guy's beer) was enough to get me buzzed and now I'm drinking rum. I was too afraid to say anything about the food, but since they said they eat there all the time and since the taco was nice and hot, I didn't care. Overall, good experience.
 
Oh yeah and the guy that invited me told me he was a bit hesitant to at first because he thought I was a Mormon, lol (so many people tjink I'm a Mormon lol).

OP made it sound like a huge group of people out drinking and eating, which makes it difficult to figure a bill.

There were two no-shows. I'm sorry if I have misled you. Regardless, the experience was still completely new to me.
