The Missing Dollar

You might be able to figure this out if you read carefully.
Three men went to a motel. The motel manager said a room cost $30, so each man put up $10 and went to their room. A little while later the manager realized the room was only $25, so he sent the bellhop back to the three guys' room with $5. On the way to the room the bellhop couldn't figure out how to split the $5 between the 3 men, so he gave each one of them $1 and he kept the other $2.

This meant that the 3 men paid $9 each for the room for a total of $27. Add the $2 that the bellhop kept = $29.

Where does the other dollar go?

--------------------

In the land of Medacity, there are Muses, Gargoyles, and Rats. Muses never lie, Gargoyles never tell the truth, and Rats tell a bit of both. You meet someone and she says "I'm not a muse." What is she?

(So far, I haven't figured anyone one of them out yet..and I don't have access to the answers)

Your thinking about it wrong when you get confused.

You paid $30. he gives you back $3. He now should give you $2 more back, but instead, he keeps it.

25 for room
3 back from bellhop
2 stolen by bellhop
-----------
$30

She's a rat.

She can't be a Muse, because she'd be lying.
She can't be a Gargoyle, because she'd be telling the truth.
Therefore, she's a rat.

hm...I thought of rat too but decided against it b/c I thought it was a bit too obvious and not challenging enough to be a puzzle. but you're probably right.
