The D60 syncs at 1/200s. All my macro stuff is done stopped waaaaay down, f/16ish, usually more. When I do high magnification stuff the extension affects things and I deal with very small apertures. For a shot at 3:1 and above it's not uncommon to for me to use f/64 effective.

Funny you should say that. I didn't want to say anything lest I jinx it, but as of today it's pretty official that one of my photos will appear in the June issue of Cottage Life. It's this one from last summer. It's not a career, yet, but it's a start.

Here's some more photos from the last week. The squill and the lizards are from today. There's a lot going on here this time of year, and it's only going to get better! This is going to be an amazing year. Already I've found two new species of native orchids that I've never seen before. I found them by their dried flower stalks. Knowing what I know, I've been able to make a 90% sure ID on both of them. One of them I'm pretty sure is Platanthera clavellata. The other is a coral root, and based on it's size there are only two species that it could possibly be. I'm almost entirely sure it's Corallorhiza wisteriana, which is on my state's endangered species list, and hasn't been reported growing in Ohio since 1974, so I'm very excited about that!:D

Enjoy!

Kind of a long shot, but there's a lot of people here. Is anyone else into native orchids, especially in the eastern US?

Got any good 1920x1200 wallpaper? :D

Be nice to see some of those full resolution, but I know your uploading dilemma, unless that has changed.

thats definitely some lens flare. your macros are great lirion. i wish i could take stuff like that. i just tried to take a pic of a dollar bill, but its just not that interesting. i have a panasonic DMC-FZ1 with FZ2 firmware. its hindered by the puny 2megapixel, but I have another 3mp pocket camera for those occasions.

I plan on taking lots of nature shots like you.

I was out there taking picture and looking at the moon too. Here is a pic using a Olympus C4000 digital camara + a $30 telescope. It wasn't easy holding the scope and have the camara look directly into the eye piece.

It looks really beautiful with the naked eye through the scope.

Here's one of the lizard at 1920x1200. Looks pretty good!

I'm still chuggin away on 24k dial-up. It sucks, but given the alternative I'd rather live where I do.

Kyteland, those look really good. How do you like your D70? What lens where those done with?

Thanks everybody for posting pics and stuff :)

I love the D70. I was wondering if I would regret the purchase, whith all the chatter about problems, but I don't in the least. It is a great camera and I would recommend it to anyone. The lense (sorry, I haad to ;)) is the kit lens, the 18-70mm f3.5-4.5G.

I have a confesstion to make. I had to take a lot of pictures to get those 6 above, and I did a little post processing in photoshop. Unless it has just rained, the Badlands is a very grey place, and the red bands in the soil needed a little help from photoshop to look their best.

Here's my pic of the moon, though an 8" Dobsonian at 47x, with a Kodak DX3900 3.1MP digital camera. :)

Unfortunately the full moon is the worst for photography (IMO) because the lack of a terminator and the shadows prevents you from seeing the numerous craters. Next time I'll wait until the moon is a few days old (as the term goes) before snapping some shots.
