Here. All these are from today when I was out in the strip pits looking for some lizards like the one I photographed last fall. It was cloudy, and they weren't very active I guess, because I never found any, but it wasn't a total loss.

Tomorrow's project will be to photograph a spring peeper tree frog in mid peep. When the males call their throat pouch fills with air and is almost clear because it gets stretched so far. It's really cool. They congregate around small ponds by the thousands this time of year, but they're almost impossible to find. It's weird standing there with tens of thousands of one-inch-long orange tree frogs making a deafening racket just a few feet from you, and not being able to find any  I actually found three, but I didn't get to shoot any. The first one I found was really cool. He was very orange, where most are just kind of tan, and his markings were very pronounced. His toes were so perfect and transparent, a stunning specimen, and the perfect subject. As I got the last of my preperations ready I took my eyes off him for just a second, and he was gone. I looked and looked but I couldn't find him. After that I found two more fighting, but when they saw me they stopped and just sat there. They were very drab specimens, so I didn't even try to shoot them. It was getting late by then anyway. I'll try again tomorrow.

n00b. ;) :p

Very nice shots.

I like the Maple flower the most.

Speaking of flowers, Here is a shot of a Wild Strawberry flower I caught while at the beach. I had planned on taking lots of wildflower pics, but being so early in the season.. this was the only flower I could find anywhere that was of any size...

Here is another shot of the same flower. The different angle adds a different dimension to the flower, I really like it.

Comments welcome. :)

I really need to get my equipment page up, so I can just point people there. I use a Canon EOS D60 (digital). All the photos from today were done with my MP-E 65mm macro lens and my MT-24EX macro twin flash, and a 550EX flash unit off camera.

Thanks for the compliments!

I've been playing with my new TS-E 90mm f/2.8 lens. Canon's TS-E lenses have tilt and shift functions like a view camera. What's special about the 90mm one is that it focuses down to almost 1:3 on it's own. From there all it takes is some extension tubes to go down to 1:1 and beyond. I took this photo of some Cladina lichens with it. Without the tilt of the TS-E 90mm there's no way I could have gotten them all in focus like that. Cladina lichens grow north of the Arctic Circle, where they are eaten by reindeer and caribou, and because of this they are called reindeer moss. I thought it was cool how they were growing up through the sphagnum moss like that. This is the only time I've ever seen them do that.

These coltsfoots were growing nearby. They look like desert plants, but they actually usually only grow near running water, and I had to literally lay in a creek to get this. It was cloudy, so they were closed up that day. It looks sunny because I set up my flashes to try and duplicate that effect.

And some more from the MP-E 65mm:

This Phidippus jumping spider was in my Ludisia orchid. This shot is cool because you can see his red fangs.

I'm pretty sure this is the same spider, but it's from a different day.

lirion, great shots. :D I am also into macro photography. I should show you some of my shots if you have the time. I'm no pro, but my work is featured at a local photo lab. :p

I just dumped my Canon S400 and went with a Sony F828. I was going to get the Canon 10D, but I am very newb to taking pictures and I didn't feel like investing a whole lot into a DSLR solution. The lenses are what cost you the most. A $1500 body won't do you a dang bit of good unless you have the better quality glass to go with it.

Ahh well, not all students have a dad named Bill Gates. LOL :p

Some pretty cool stuff on there :D

My frog project was a flop today. It was dry and sunny, and the tree frogs weren't very active. If their skin dries out they can't breath, so they can't stay out in the sun for very long. I did find a mating pair, but they wouldn't hold still, and I didn't get anything very spectacular.

I did get this though. It's the first bloodroot I've found open so far.

Post some stuff, I'm sure we'd all like to see :D Yeah, it's the glass that gets you. Good optics are frightfully expensive.

I like the one with the people in the boat, and the willow trees and stuff in the back.
