Here. All these are from today when I was out in the strip pits looking for some lizards like the one I photographed last fall. It was cloudy, and they weren't very active I guess, because I never found any, but it wasn't a total loss.
Tomorrow's project will be to photograph a spring peeper tree frog in mid peep. When the males call their throat pouch fills with air and is almost clear because it gets stretched so far. It's really cool. They congregate around small ponds by the thousands this time of year, but they're almost impossible to find. It's weird standing there with tens of thousands of one-inch-long orange tree frogs making a deafening racket just a few feet from you, and not being able to find any
I actually found three, but I didn't get to shoot any. The first one I found was really cool. He was very orange, where most are just kind of tan, and his markings were very pronounced. His toes were so perfect and transparent, a stunning specimen, and the perfect subject. As I got the last of my preperations ready I took my eyes off him for just a second, and he was gone. I looked and looked but I couldn't find him. After that I found two more fighting, but when they saw me they stopped and just sat there. They were very drab specimens, so I didn't even try to shoot them. It was getting late by then anyway. I'll try again tomorrow.
