Loved the book, gave a nice and understandable view of how our science has progressed through the ages and where a lot of our knowledge/theories come from without becoming too caught up with formulas and equations.

Any other books I should check out along the same subject?

Ya know, I really couldn't get into that book. I read "A Walk in the Woods" by Bryson and it was highly entertaniing (except the end) and was hoping for more of the same with this. I just found it highly boring. If he had made it more sarcastic/witty I think I would have enjoyed it more thoroughly.

(Sorry if that didn't answer your question, just though I'd share :) )

eh, I guess you'd have to be interested in the subject itself to enjoy the book. I'm very much into general science, so I loved it. I'm fairly sure I wouldn't enjoy the book that you did though, cause the premise of it seems a bit boring to me.

great book. it took me a long time to get through it, but I really liked it. If you like the style, check out Bryson's other books.

I agree. The first 3/4 of the book are highly entertaining, the ending wasn't so great though.

I've been reading it off and on for about 6 weeks now...heh. I wished I could have read for a few hours at a time but usually it ended up being 30-40 minutes at a time.

come to think of it, would Hawking's A Brief History of Time be out of my realm of understanding? Always hear it is a great book

i'm following up ASHONE with Collapse
(actually, i'm reading it and the MCSE 70-290 Study Guide at the same time)

once i finish a book, i just go to costco and find something else that looks good. That's how I discovered Bryson. Collapse is interesting, but not as entertaining as Bryson's style.

i didn't think it was nearly up to his usual standards- got to the end and it seemed like he'd gone into masses of detail in some areas, but not nearly enough or even at all, into others.

I think his best book is probably 'Notes from a Big Country'- those bitsized articles make for a great read before bed (it's just really hard stopping at one tho' :) )
