Just finished building my first.
Soyo KT-600 v1
barton 2600 retail

Few quirky things that I need help on:

1. For some reason on the 3rd day of running computer I no longer could double click on an open are like google and get a dropdown. 1st 2 days I could type in x and all the x's come up. For example. Now I have to type in complete. Same on ebay. When I would double click on bidding area all my usual silly bids came up. $.99 etc. Now nothing. ENABLING "Inline Auto Complete" didnt work.
2. SOLVED!!!!
3. Bandwidth on memory is AWFUL. Tested with pcuid. Have 2 256 pc 2700 (centon). fsb at 166. Same as CPU. (Wanted to do everything stock until I have more of a clue to what I am doing.
Does the memory just suck?? Or do I have to do something in the BIOS to make it better. Supposedly these sticks are 2.5. Havent tried anything.
4. When I click on the programs tab. Programs now come up with a list of 20 and then a arrow on the bottom. This wasnt the same for the first coupld of days. ENABLING SCROLL PROGRAMS DIDNT WORK.

OH!!! Running Office 2000 Pro

Thanks greatly in advance!!!!!!

Since you just built it and probably just put a new OS on it then.

1. You have no history. You have to build that first, by going to those sites before they will popup by just typing xxx. You probably have no cookies as well. That is why your old setting on Ebay won't show normally.

2. That clicking noise is just normal. There is a setting in the browser or something that you can turn it off.

3. Don't know about that bandwidth. Since you running them at FSB 166, you should get that bandwidth, whatever it is, 3.2 Gb or something? I am not sure on that. 2.5 is the cas latency, timing. I don't think you would see a bigger bandwidtch by changing the timing. Changing the FSB will give you bigger bandwidth.

4. As for the down arrow. That is normal. Just click on it to expand. The idea behind that is to show only the most often used programs and hide the others.

Hope it helps.

Sounds like you turned off AutoComplete in IE. Control Panel - Internet Options - Advanced - under "Browsing" turn on "Inline AutoComplete"

2. Surfing the internet I hear a click everytime I go back or forward. Switched computers with the same speakers and no click from them.

Windows sound scheme. To get rid of it, go to Control Panel - Sounds - Sounds Tab - and either set the scheme to "None" or remove the sound for "Start Navigation"

Install the VIA 4-in-1 drivers for your Soyo board (KT600 chipset, I take it?) and watch it soar. ;)

4. When I click on the programs tab. Programs now come up with a list of 20 and then a arrow on the bottom. This wasnt the same for the first coupld of days.

It's hiding unused programs. Right-click the Start button, "Properties" - Customize - Advanced - "Scroll Programs" - check it off and hit OK. :)

Ok,

1. Got the sound off!!!

2. Enable "Inline AutoComplete". No change

3. I right clicked on the Start Key to expand programs but I do not get "Properties". Get "Open, Explore, Search, Scan with NAV, Open all Users, Scan All Users". I also thought it was hiding unused programs but Internet Explorer is one of the programs it is hiding and is showing a few programs that I have never used.

4. I had already downloaded the 4 in 1 driver.

Thanks again, Leigh

Make sure your bios memory settings are accurate. Test with automatic spd in your bios and see what you get bandwidth wise. You should get aroung 2400 or so, I would assume if you are using Sandra and have buffering enabled the test options. Next go into your bios memory option screen and manual tweak some timings and make sure the memory is 1:1 with the FSB and make sure that motherboard doesn't have some manual jumpers causing some issues.
