A Feast for Crows is out

I never preorder stuff like this. Books almost never run out in my experience, and getting it opening day whenever I want from a store is better then waiting for the delivery man or even missing him.

Its straight to the bookstore once lunch hour hits.

Still pissed off they're leaving out my fav chars on this one. Jon, Daenyres (sp?), Ayra, and Tyrion.

Yeah. this and the 11th Wheel of Time just came out. Sam's didnt have a feast of crows there, I was sad.

Jordon is crap, crap and always crap. Maybe if we made a dimensional portal and came into a universe where the wheel of time series was only 7 books, it would be good. But, mix lobster stuffed with filet mignon with even a little bit of crap and its still crap. Would you eat it?

Hence, him = crap. He had 4, 5, maybe 6 good books. Add another 5 pieces of crap and its almost half crap!

I have to wait b/c my wife is getting it for me for X-mas. Two months of agony!

Guess I'll have to dust off the first three.

Same here, since I finished the last one in freakin' 2000. It didn't take Tolkien this long to write LOTR did it?

I suppose the bright side of the matter is that since this volume had to be split, the second portion (a dance with dragons) should be half done already, and perhaps it will only be 2-3 years instead of 5 before we see it. I'm still not certain how AFFC will read without the character subplots that I am fondest of, but I'm sure George R.R. Martin can pull it off if anyone can.

It damn well better come out soon. I'm holding the book, and I must say I'm a little disappointed. Its almost 700 pages, which is short in my mind compared to Storm of Swords. I just wanted something more after waiting so long.

Well, each book was getting bigger and bigger.... Feast for Crows was originally going to be longer than a Storm of Swords, but the publisher said no way... SoS was already at the limit of the biggest book they were physically able to publish. Given the amount of time since the last book, they urged Martin to go ahead and release something, so he split it in half. He rewrote portions of the book several times, that's part of the reason it's taken so long.

I know all the details, but in the end I'm still holding a smaller book, and I'm still disappointed. I want to know MORE damnit.

Already a third way through teh book. Good thing work was slow yesterday.

Yeah but I paid 16 bucks for it how much did you pay?

Jeez, I never even heard of this book... or it's predecessors. I guess it's good? synopsis for the lazy?

Trust me bro there are VERY VERY VERY few books of this caliber just read it and enjoy it, and a synopsis for an epic like this is damn near impossible, plus it will never do it justice. Its so dissappointing after every book you finish because you know that once you have read it thats it no more to read...

Legends I and II also have short stories set 100yrs before the current series. The first story was reprinted in George R.R. Martin: A Rrestrospective (not, the rrestrospective is how it's spelled in the book). There have also been 3-4 preview chapters, including a Dany and Arya (aside from Cercei, Asha and Balon Grejoy) published over the last couple of years. Anyone who can't find the Dany and Arya ones, send me a PM and I'll send you the webpages I have saved.

The funny thing on the reviews on Amazon is that there were about 20 reviews BEFORE 2005 trashing the book. How can they review a book that isn't even out?! A few low marks from about 3-4 people who stayed up reading the book, but still mostly 5 star ratings.

Yea, I really liked the hedge knight series. I love catching references to characters back then in the stories set in the "now" time in ASOIF.

I paid 18, a little over 19 for tax.

Damn, no Tyrion or Ayra?? That's a little dissapointing...At least if there is lots of good Jaime stuff then I'll be happy.

Actually, I'm a hundred pages into the book and there's at least one chapter on Arya. I don't know how many are in the rest of the book. It was the same one as in one of the previews, though. So far, all of the preview chapters are in the book, except for the Dany one. Saved that one on my hard drive though 😉

Yep, if you took all of Jordan and condensed it down to only the best parts it still would not pad out to 6 good books. 2 or 3 surely, maybe 4, but that's it. The only people who still read Jordan are metrosexuals who care about what the Aes Sedai are wearing this year.
