I suppose I have to reread the first 3 so I can remember what happened. That'll only take 6 months.

I am mad that they are splitting this into 2 books, just so they can make 2X the money.

if im going to give my money to anyone its going to be good authors like grrm

Exactly. Anyway, it sounds like each book with be the same size as A Clash of Kings anyway, so you're not really paying more than you would for a typically sized book in the series, plus you get to read more of this series sooner than you otherwise would have.

Agreed. You certainly get your moneys worth with Martin. Last 3 books have averaged over 1200 pages each, that's double or triple the size of many other authors. Even if he splits the next book into 2 books of 900 pages each it's still a good value for the price. About my only objection is the method chosen to split the books. I'd rather he include ALL the characters and just leave the story unfinished. That's what's happened so far, none of the books wraps up any plotlines. Each one has unresolved issues and cliffhangers. I don't like the idea of an entire book without Tyrion.

what's with all the persecution complex's on this board? everyone thinks the man is out to get them.

george rr martin thoroughly described the reasoning for the 2 books - 1 isn't being split into 2; 1 grew too large, was reorganized and sent to publishing, and the 2nd is being worked on now.

I started re-reading the first three books thinking I would just browse them as to brush up, BUT I cant help it I am getting back into it hook like and sinker and reading line by line. Amazing read....

The main problem I have is the way he's done it. If he has enough material for two books, and the publisher can't fit it all into one, then just publish Part 1 and Part 2 NOW. This crap about including half the characters, then we have to wait god knows how long for the other half just bugs me. But then again, his quality is better then 99% of the junk out there so he obviously knows what he's doing. I just hope it's not another 5 years, 'cause the guy isn't going to live forever and we need to get this thing wrapped up!

good post..

interesting... if you waited until A Dance with Dragons is done, you could read a chapter of each book at a time :S
this series is awesome so there really isn't any choice in whether or not to continue reading 😀

I hope Littlefinger gets his damn ball torn off by Tyrion! Oh, so much hell is going to break loose in these books. I am really glad that I just finished to 3rd only a few months ago.

But if you don't want to wait go pick up Gardens of the Moon by Steven Erikson, amazing books!

If you read the first three books, you should know by now that no one gets their come-uppance in these books (except Joffrey) and the bad guys always win. That's what intrigued me about them in the first place.

I figured I'd bump this thread:

Looks like A Feast for Crows is coming out November 8th in the US. However, it looks like it's being released October 17th in the UK. So I guess if you really need a copy early, you can get it via Amazon.co.uk for £20.27 shipped ($35.40 USD) via Air Mail (6-10 business days for delivery). That's compared to the US version from Amazon.com for $22.47. If it's worth the extra ~$12, you may want to look into this.

From Publisher's Weekly:

Long-awaited doesn't begin to describe this fourth installment in bestseller Martin's staggeringly epic Song of Ice and Fire. Speculation has run rampant since the previous entry, A Storm of Swords, appeared in 2000, and Feast teases at the important questions but offers few solid answers. As the book begins, Brienne of Tarth is looking for Lady Catelyn's daughters, Queen Cersei is losing her mind and Arya Stark is training with the Faceless Men of Braavos; all three wind up in cliffhangers that would do justice to any soap opera. Meanwhile, other familiar faces?notably Jon Snow, Tyrion Lannister and Daenerys Targaryen?are glaringly absent though promised to return in book five. Martin's Web site explains that Feast and the forthcoming A Dance of Dragons were written as one book and split after they grew too big for one volume, and it shows. This is not Act I Scene 4 but Act II Scene 1, laying groundwork more than advancing the plot, and it sorely misses its other half. The slim pickings here are tasty, but in no way satisfying. (Nov.)

NOOOOOOO!!!!

Well... come on.. you new he was splitting the book up and his chapters are always character based.... sooo... some parties were going to be left out... When do we get the next book?

For real. What did you expect? Totally sucks, but Martin hasn't really been the most accomadating for his fans. Hopefully the next one will be out in a years time, but that may very well just be wishful thinking. Still, tho, the next won't address the endings of this one, and it won't be until book six that everthing starts coming together again. He really should have made it the mother of all books and put it out next summer complete.

Or done what his publisher wanted and just split the book down the middle.

I can't remember it's all so fuzzy now, I hope he has a catch up section in the beginning, kinda like the star wars opening scroll to tell us what's goin on.

Did Jamie Lannister die?

No, Jamie is still alive as of the end of book 3.

No spoilers!!!!

It was a thread like this that got me started on the series in the first place... damn you all...
